Qatar Charity Sends Medical Team to Gaza

Doha, January 18, 2009

In the framework of its continuous humanitarian and charitable efforts, Qatar Charity has sent a medical team to Gaza in association with Hamad Medical Corporation and Qatari Physicians Society.

A team of six doctors and one first-aid man left Doha last Friday to al-‘Areesh via Cairo Airport so as to join the Qatari doctors who entered Gaza through Rafah four days ago.

The doctors expressed their happiness over this humanitarian mission saying: “We are pleased to serve our kith and kin in Gaza. We do prefer to face the hard situation in Gaza to watch destruction and killing on TV.”

In the same vein, the medical team praised the positive role and great efforts of Qatar - Government, individuals and establishments - towards the Palestinian people, espicially in Gaza. They also thanked Qatar Charity and all other cooperative bodies for helping them to participate in the nation’s duty towards Gaza.

On his part, Mr. ‘Abdullah Husain al-Ni‘mah, the Board’s member and Managing Director of Qatar Charity, expressed his pride of the role of Qatar’s medical team and their participation in relieving pains of the people of Gaza, stating that the Charity has secured the required approval for the team to enter Gaza accompanied by all medical necessaries.

According to Mr. al-Ni‘mah,” The team will remain for one month in Gaza. Then, we will spare no effort to meet our brothers’ needs, i.e. to resend another team to help them face any hard circumstances in the medical field. Such a step, in fact, constitutes a part and parcel of charities’ humanitarian duty towards civilians in Gaza, especially the old, children and women.”

By the way, Dr. Saleh al-Yazidi, the chief of the medical team, stated that: “The team includes specialists in blood vessels, emergency, general surgery, pediatrics surgery, orthopedics and anesthesiology. Our kith and kin in Gaza Strip are in need of all such specializations. The team has secured all required tools so as to achieve their task successfully.”
