Qatar Charity Moves Briskly to Rescue Sumatra


In the framework of its relief efforts to the victims of Sumatra earthquake, Qatar Charity distributed urgent humanitarian relief items to the inhabitants of Bariman province, the most quake-affected area, last week. Some 5600 persons benefitted from this assistance.

In a press release, the director of the Charity’s Office in Jakarta, al-Hasan Azqour, stated that: “The assistance included basic foodstuffs and other items such as rice, cooking oil, pasta, milk, biscuits and water, in addition to blankets, soap and candles.”

He added that: “Items of aid were distributed to the aggrieved in 14 villages in Sonor County, wherein some 600 families (2400 persons) benefited from this assistance, in addition to 800 families (3200 persons) in Badan Sagho area. The event was attended by local officials.”

“The Charity’s present assistance represents the first step of its humanitarian efforts in Indonesia. The Charity has already surveyed the quake-affected area and offered different forms of relief items. We do ask our generous brothers in Qatar to increase their good help since the damage is so great.

This campaign will continue for two months. Qatar Charity will be present in the area to offer more different kinds of assistance to the grieved in the area in association with local and global,governmental and non- governmental organizations. ” He stated.

It is worth mentioning that Qatar Charity has participated in the reconstruction stage after Tsunami quake, in addition to constructing al-Rayyan Complex (170 housing flats and required facilities) in Ache. It also established several productive projects.
