Qatar Charity Assists 14.000 African Refugees in Yemen

In association with UNHCR Qatar Charity distributed non-food packages to 14.000 African refugees who arrived recently in Yemen at a cost of QR 1.000.000.

Each package includes blankets, bed covers, cleanliness materials, clothes, shoes and dates. Items of aid were distributed to the new comers of Ethiopia and Somalia at Meaif'ah and Kharz centers.

Qatar Charity paid a field visitation to the camps in Yemen and examined the situation of the refugees who left their homeland due to conflicts and drought. As a result of this survey, Qatar Charity and UNHCR signed a MOU in February 2009 in order to meet the urgent needs of the new refugees in Yemen.

The above-mentioned agreement comes in the framework of Qatar Charity's strategic trends in relation to making new partnerships and cooperation with Global Humanitarian Organizations.

These packages will suffice the essential needs of the refugees till the end of December 2009, especially they arrived with no belongings after a perilous journey in the Red Sea.
