Qatar Charity: US $ 753.000
For the Second Phase of Succouring the Victims
of Earthquake in Kashmir.
Qatar
Charity has recently started the second phase of
its campaign to succour the victims of Pakistan
earthquake; the first ended in December 2005.
This phase is intended to be a "Relief
Project" in favour of Bagh District in Kashmir
Province, since 40% of the population in this
province are poor countrymen.
This project, whose cost amounts to US $
753.000, aims at helping the victims of Bagh
District to face living difficulties since the
earthquake caused damages to 80% of the
population.
This relief project includes:
1-Sheltering 1200 families:
Qatar
Charity has started preparing "Temporary
Buildings" in order to enable the victims to
face the circumstances of cold winter.
Such shelters, according to international
standards approved by Relief Organizations,
consist of wooden pillars, zinc plates and other
building up materials.
To achieve this duty, Qatar Charity has made
agreements with "IOM" organization in order to
transport materials from Islam Abad to Bagh, and
with "ATLAS" organization to transport these
materials to different villages.
At the same time, Pakistani Army will take
part in this campaign concerning storing
materials.
To put the plan into effect, Qatar Charity
has surveyed recent needs of the victims and
started distribution of Zinc plates, wood and
plastic and other needed materials in order to
set up 1200 temporary shelters.
2-Health Care.
Due
to the earthquake, the populations of the
targeted areas are suffering from several
healthy and psychological problems. Among these
problems are: extreme psychological agitations,
sleeplessness, depression and lack of appetite.
At the same time, victims are suffering from
diseases of cold and malnutrition. Nearly 20 %
of mothers stopped breast-feeding and 10% of
children lost their suckling mothers.
Thus, Qatar Charity covers the financial
costs of the Pakistani medical teams, which are
working for this campaign.
3- Education.
As a part and parcel of this project, Qatar
Charity has also started the process of
rehabilitation of 50 scholastic classes in order
to help victim students, males and females, to
continue their studies.
According to an agreement with UNICEF, the
latter assumes the task of providing these
students with educational materials.
4-School Health Care.
This part of the project aims to :(1)
rehabilitate around 30 .000 students to help
them follow their study, and (2) train 1000
teachers in order to help them spread the
Education of "Community Intercommunication".
5-Developmental Projects.
This is to help some sections of the victims
to be productive, for example, helping widows to
take care of their orphans. In this second phase
of the project, around 200 widows will benefit
and be productive by the means of providing them
with sewing machines, milky cows, raw materials,
and weaving tools.
