The Second Stage Aid of Urgent Relief
To the Victims of Drought in Somalia
In co-operation with Zamzam Foundation, Qatar Charity has recently started the second stage of urgent relief for the victims of drought and famine in four provinces in southern Somalia.
The Charity's visiting delegation to Somalia consisted of :(1) Mr. Ahmad Khalifa al-'Aseri, a member of the General Assembly, (2)Mr. Muhammad Bin al-Habeeb l-Dakkali, Projects and International Relations Dept. manager, and(3) Mr. 'Ammar
al-Hammuri, chairperson of Africa Section.
The delegation distributed drinkable water and foodstuffs to the victims of drought, and supervised the dispatch of medical caravan to some villages in the province of lower Shabelle.
In a press release, Mr. al-'Aseri, the head of delegation, said: "In this stage, we offered
relief aid to the provinces of: Bay, Lower Shabelle, Middle Shabelle and Middle Juba, which include one thousand villages with a population of 5.000.000."
"Relief aid includes :(1) the distribution of rice, maize,cooking oil, and drinkable water,(2)opening medical centers for babies, pregnant women and breast-feeding mothers, and (3)sending medical caravans.", he added.
By the way, it is expected that this campaign will continue till the end of this month, March 2006, and, Allah Willing, new stages will be launched.
