Qatar Charity (QC) is a non-government organisation which was established in 1992 in order to support the
Qatari society and other needy communities abroad. Its mission is to support the abilities of the most needy
groups to fulfil human dignity and social justice in cooperation with partners. Its vision is to be an example,
a pioneering, distinguished Islamic institution which combines originality, creativity and professionalism in the field of humanitarian aid and development.
QC is one of the largest charities in the Gulf, its activities covering more than 40 countries in Africa, Asia and Europe, through its registered field offices in various countries or local civil societies as implementing partners. QC is registered in Qatar and governed by law No (2) of 1974, which is amended by decree-law No (17) 1989, and law No (8) of 1998, which regulates work of private societies and foundations. QC has been in consultative status with UN ECOSOC since 1997.

QC adheres to the fundamental humanitarian standards, principles, and values. QC’s essential values are co-operation, honouring human dignity, credibility, professionalism, originality, innovation and quality. QC is a signatory and supporter of the Code of Conduct for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and NGOs in Disaster Relief. QC also strives to observe the SPHERE minimum standards in disaster response.

QC focuses its work in the strategic fields of humanitarian relief and development family, woman and child; education and culture; income generating projects and investment and waqf (endowment). Educational programmes rank particularly high among the activities of Qatar Charity since acquiring knowledge is most important in Islam and contribute to
the aims of supporting relief and development to the poorest.

QC has a General Assembly, Board of Directors, Executive and Specialised Departments to support its work. These departments are in the areas of monitoring and follow-up (affairs of orphans, needy families, students and teachers and basic infrastructures in education, health and water), a Program and Projects Department (carrying out projects and co-operation with partners), a Financial and Administrative Department, an Information Department, a Marketing and Public Relations Department (fundraising and communication with donors), a Planning and Quality Unit and, last but not least, a Women's Department (organising women’s activities in Qatar).
