Qatar Charity Carries out

The First Charitable Campaign
In the Horn of Africa at a cost of US$ 200.000

Between 16 and 26, Feb.2006, Qatar Charity carried out the first phase of its Relief Campaign for the victims of the drought and famine in the Horn of Africa.

This phase covered Gado Province near the borders of Kenya and Garbahari City, whose mayor said: "Qatar Charity's Relief Campaign was the first to arrive to the afflicted areas."

Mr.'Abdullah Husain al-Ni'mah, the Executive Manager of Q.C., explained that: "The Charity's Relief Campaign aims at meeting the humanitarian pressing needs for the victims of the afflicted areas."

Furthermore, Mr. al-Ni'mah stated that these needs included the following:

  1. Distributing foodstuffs such as sugar, maize, flour, and cooking oil to 118 villages in Gado Province in order to fight malnutrition, especially among pregnant and suckling women, and children.
  2. Providing the stricken areas with medical assistance and sending a medical caravan with some doctors and nurses to villages of Gado Province.
  3. Providing the stricken areas with tanks of drinking water, since there is a dire need for water due to drought .So, some 300.000 persons benefited from this service.

To make this campaign procure its goals since foodstuffs were unavailable in Gado Province, Qatar Charity made an agreement with a highly qualified foundation in humanitarian assistance and relief organizations activities in order to transport foodstuffs and medicines from Mogadishu and Kismayo.

The Charity also rented stores and cars to complete the operation.
"The total cost of this campaign amounted to US$100.000" Mr. al-Ni'mah stated.
It was carried out in co-operation with "Zamzam Foundation".

Mr. al-Ni'mah called upon benefactors – seeking Allah's pleasure and reward - to support Qatar Charity's continuous Relief Campaign for the victims of the afflicted areas in the Horn of Africa due to ongoing bad circumstances.

He added that the Charity started preparing for another campaign in co –operation with "Muslim Youth Society" in Kenya at a cost of US$100.000.

It aims at assisting destitute people in the provinces of Gharsia, Jira, Mandira and Tana.
