Heads “Reach Out to Asia Intiative”Delegation
To Pakistan

HE Sheikh al-Mayyasa Bint Hamad al-Thani, the Chairperson of “Reach to Asia Initiative”, Headed the Common Relief Delegation of Qatar to Pakistan on 15-12-2005.

Participating Charities in this campaign were Qatar Charity, Qatar Red Crescent Society, Jassim Ibn Jabir al-Thani organization and Muhammad Ibn ‘Eid Charity.

Qatar Charity was represented by Mr.’Abdullah al-Ni’mah,the Executive Manager of the society.

HE Sheikha al-Mayyasa arrived in Islamabad at the head of the first shipments of aid for quake survivors.

The shipments included blankets, sleeping bags and tents for tens of thousands of victims.

She personally took part in the operation of distributing aid relief among the victims.

Earlier in the day with the accompanying delegation, HE Sheikha al-Mayyasa paid a visit to the quake-struck areas to see the magnitude of human and material losses sustained in these districts in order to assess the scale and quality of assistance to be rendered by the ‘Reach Out to Asia’ campaign in the near future.

She met a number of affected families and orphans.

On this occasion, she declared:"This initiative demonstrates the faithful spirit, heritage and good traditions of the Qatari people. We aim at rebuilding schools and restoring medical services on behalf of the victims."

She also visited some locations where Qatar Charity rendered its quality services in the camps of affected people such as providing them with food, stoves, blankets and tents.

She also paid a visit to a Vocational Centre for Women, where a training course is held for forty ladies. Qatar Charity provided this center with the needed materials of sewing.

Finally, she also paid a visit to the Qatar Charitable Society’s medical camp, where she got acquainted with humanitarian services rendered by the society.

Qatar Charity is the First Qatari Voluntary Foundation
To relieve Pakistan Earthquake Victims

Qatar Charity has actively responded to brotherly and humanitarian call to relieve victims of Pakistani earthquake, which took place on 8/10/2005.

Q.C., via its office in Pakistan, was the first Qatari voluntary organization to get to the affected areas in order to aid the victims. At the same time, Qatar Charity's delegation, headed by the Executive Manager Mr. 'Abdullah al-Ni'mah, was the first delegation to visit the stricken areas.

Urgent relief included tents, blankets, medicines, winter clothes for children, gas oven and other requirements.

Some 91,000 persons benefited from this campaign.

At the same time, Q.C. started to carry out ''Urgent Medical Units and Groups'' project in co-operation with UNICEF and Pakistani Department of Health.

This project aims at helping and taking care of 180,000 persons for six months.

In addition to that, Q.C. will continue and spare no effort to establish a permanent camp for one thousand victims of the earthquake in co-operation with International Organizations and world charities.

Qatar Charity: Two Delegations offer
Relief supplies in Pakistan

Two delegations from Qatar Charity visited Pakistan for the sake of inspecting the circumstances of the earthquake victims and providing them with relief supplies.

The first delegation, headed by Engineer 'Abdullah Husain al-Ni'mah, paid a visit to the scenes between 13-18 October/ 2005.

Goals of that visit were concentrated on providing the victims with urgent relief and searching for partnerships to co-operate with them in this urgent relief.

The delegation also visited The Department of Social Affairs and some of its bureaus.

On this occasion, Q.C. assigned US$ 100,000 as part of such relief supplies.

The second delegation consisted of Dr. 'Abdul Wahaab al-Musleh and Engineer Yusuf al-Hammadi, Two members of Q.C. Board of Directors, paid a visit to Pakistan on last Eid al-Fitr.

They offered relief supplies to victims and orphans in camps that accommodated affected families.

Qatar Charity Strengthens Partnerships with
International Organizations and Charities to Relieve Victims of Earthquake

Urgent Relief offered by Q.C. for the victims of the Pakistan earthquake has broadened the scope of partnerships and co-operation with International Humanitarian Organizations and local charities in Pakistan and Qatar; besides, official circles, ministries and the two embassies of Qatar and U.A.E in Islamabad.

Qatar Charity has entered into partnerships with:

  • UNICEF and Pakistani Department of Health in the project of ''Emergency Medical Units and Groups'', which offers its services in Muzaffarabad and Kashmir.
  • Qatari Red Crescent, and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent societies in some areas of Mashera and Betigram Provinces.
  • Life for Relief and Development Org., UNICEF, WFP, the Federal Emergency Relief commission and Afghan Commissionerate for establishing a permanent camp for Emigrants under discussion and execution in the North Province of Pakistan.
  • Pakistani Department of Social Affairs (Qatar Embassy) and U.A.E Embassy in Islamabad and local Pakistani charities participating in the distribution of direct relief financed by Qatar Charity (including blankets, tents, food, gas oven, winter clothes and medicines).
  • Qatar Embassy granted Q.C. 230 tents while U.A.E. Embassy offered 500 tents.
  • In reality, relief and development projects that are carried out via partnership plays active role due to co-operation in the field of charitable & humanitarian work.

Relief Work is Qatar’s Bright Aspect

Charitable and humanitarian work constitutes one of the bright aspects of the state of Qatar, which is well-known worldwide officially and publicly for its immediate interaction with relief calls in favor of natural disasters victims.

On 8 October/2005, the State of Qatar, in accordance with the directives of H. H. al-sheikh Hamad Ibn Khalifa al-Thani- the Emir of the State of Qatar - decided to send urgent relief supplies in favor of the victims of the earthquake.

“The Team of Research and Rescue” subject to “Internal Security Forces” and a specialized unit of the Qatari Armed Forces consisting of a number of medical doctors, specialists and a medical delegation from Hamad Medical Corporation took part in relief and rescue action last October, 2005.

On a state level, charities and charitable organizations hurried to aid victims of the earthquake. So, Qatar Authority for Charitable Activities sent three relief planes transporting 200 tents, 10400 blankets, medicines and dates. In addition to this, nine more planes transported Qatar aid via Qatar Authority for Charitable Activities on 3 December/2005.

In the same vein, Qatari Red Crescent offered tents and blankets for 300 families in Moseera and Batal area. It also put up a field hospital in Ponjarea. That hospital accommodates 45 beds and offers medical services for 250-300 people a day. It will continue for 6 months.

Muhammad Ibn Eid Charity also sent food, medical materials and tents, which coasted Q.R. 500,000

Qatar Embassy in Pakistan, represented by H. E. The Ambassador Mr. Hamad al-Hinzaab, played an active role to ease the tasks of Rescue Teams, Medical Units and relief actions of Qatari Charitable Societies. H. E. The Ambassador himself took part in research and rescue operations.

Qatar Charity Office in Pakistan:
13 years of continuous Efforts

Qatar Charity opened its office in Pakistan in 1992. It concentrated its activities in Jammu and Kashmir province in order to provide the people with drinking water and take care of childhood upgrade education and social services.

On 21st/9/2005, Qatar Charity singed an agreement with UNHCR in order to carry out a big water project. That project aimed at providing Afghan refugees old camps with drinking water. They numbered 264,144 persons in 45 camps.

The total cost of the project is US$ 150,000. According to the agreement Q.C. is required to finance digging and building 40 water wells.

Other achievements included sponsoring 1948 orphans among the refugees.

Q.C. has actively responded to brotherly and humanitarian call to relieve the victims of Pakistan earthquake, which took place on 8 /10/ 12005, killing a big number of people, making millions homeless, and causing destruction in infrastructure.

Q.C. was the first Qatari voluntary organization to get to the stricken areas, since its representative reached there within three days.

Thus, via its office in Islamabad, Q.C. has taken the necessary steps and procedures to organize and send a working group to urgently and directly relieve the victims in coordination with governmental and NG circles in order to ease field operation.

Direct Finance and Distribution of Instant Relief

Relief Supplies included tents, blankets, food, medicines, and winter clothes for children and gas ovens.

Some 76180 persons benefited from this relief.

Relief through Co-Partnerships

''Emergency Medical Units and Groups'' Project

This project has been carried out in co-operation with UNICEF and Pakistani Department of Health. And Q.C. provides the project with tents and required financial expenses for the administration.

It aims to participate in urgent medical services in the most affected areas in Kashmir, especially in Muzaffarabad, which was severely destructed, by establishing field medical units and sending 18 medical groups to the stricken areas for a period of six months, in addition to '' Special Women Group'' whose duty is to provide women with medical culture.

Each field medical group consists of one medical doctor, two nurses, two medical technicians and one midwife.

It is estimated that some 180,000 persons will benefit from this project.

''Urgent Participation in Sheltering the Victims '' Project

Qatar Charity took the initiative to specify urgent needs concerning providing the victims with temporary shelter, distributing relief supplies offered by the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in Ghari Habibullah, Bahu Gharman, Tandu and Pava areas in Mansahra Province as well as Batl and adjacent villages in Bitigram Province.

Beneficiaries of the first urgent stage of this project amounted to 2000 families during one week; they received 1818 tents with special plastic mattresses and 12726 blankets.

The relief supplies of this project were offered by several countries.

Qatar sent its aid via Qatar Authority for Charitable Activities in co-ordination with The International Federation of the Red Cross and The Red Crescent.

Some other humanitarian organizations offered aid to support the project as well.

Under construction Projects
Permanent camp for Emigrants

Among projects in preparation, Qatar charity is doing its best to construct a permanent camp for emigrants in the North-West Province. It is planned to accommodate a thousand tents for the victims, to include a clinic, school, drinkable water and food.

Qatar Charity and Life for Relief and Development Org. have assumed to collect what the camp needs.

International organizations for relief located in Pakistan will co-operate with Q.C. and Life for Relief Org.

Budget of the project amounts Q.C. 2,868,717.

Recommended partners are: Life Relief and Development Org., UNICEF, WFP, The Federal Relief Commission and Afghan Relief Commission.

On 21 August 2005, Q.C. signed an agreement of co-operation with the UNHRC to carry out a big '' water project'' that aims to provide the old 45 camps of Afghan refugees located at north west borders of Pakistan, which accommodated 264144 persons. The total cost of this project amounted to US$ 150.000.

According to the agreement, Q.C. is committed to finance and dig and accomplish 40 wells, with all required tools, instruments and actions, so that the refugees in Kohat, Hanko and Mirdan camps can get fresh water. This, for sure, needs co-operation with local departments of water.

At the same time, UNHRC is committed to provide Q.C. with logistic data needed for reviewing tours, and train and rehabilitate the cadre of the project.

Q.C. is in charge of managing and carrying out the project which will be fulfilled in two stages. The first stage, 400 of the project, ends his year while the second stage will end in 2006.

This project constitutes a practical step of Q.C.'s strategy that aims to strengthen co-operation with international foundations working in the field of development, especially UNHRC.

The agreement of this vital project was initialed in Pakistan on 10/8/2006, and it was finally signed in Q.C. Headquarter in Doha on 25/8/2005.

In this context, the executive Manager of Q.C. Mr. al-Ni'mah said: ' Refugees in those areas are in a dire need of drinking water to protect them from diseases. This demonstrates the humanitarian dimension of the charitable work. That is why Q.C. has taken the initiative to sign the agreement which relieves sufferings / hand ships of 264,000 refugees.

Qatar Charity Signs Health Agreement
With UNICEF and Pakistani Department of Health

Rawalpindi City.

On the 23rd of December 2005, Qatar Charity signed a deed of Understanding with UNICEF and Pakistani Department of Health.

This agreement aims at :( 1) supporting the efforts of the Department of Health in Kashmir in favor of the victims of the earthquake, especially 2.000.200 women and children; and (2) forming 18 medical teams. Each team consists of one medical doctor, two medical technicians, one nurse, and one midwife.

This agreement will offer medical services to five areas in Kashmir in the area of Muzaffarabad and its suburbs, where 90% of the area was ruined. Some 180.000 people will benefit from this project.

The total cost of this project amounts to Q.R.1.000.000. Qatar Charity's contribution, which equals Q.R.397.887., will cover all administrative expenses of the medical teams for six months (tents, transportation and so on.).

UNICEF will provide the project with medical equipment and medicine for ten thousand people, while the Pakistani Department of Health will provide the project with highly-qualified medical doctors and nurses.
