Allocates US $ 100,000 For Victims of Floods in Sudan

Qatar Charity continued its emergency relief campaign which started last September in association with "The Sudan Humanitarian Affairs Commission".

The Charity distributed emergency humanitarian assistance to the people of Jabal al-Awliya Region in Khartoum Province and Sanjah Region in Sinar Province, because they were hit by severe floods.

Two delegations of the Charity who visited the area distributed 300 tents and 300 straw mats to shelter 300 homeless families, and distributed 300 food parcels for 500 families .Each parcel included 5 kg of sugar, 10 kg of flour, 5 kg of rice, and 2 kg of lentils. Some 1100 families (5539 persons) benefited from this relief campaign. The total cost of this campaign amounted to US $ 50,000.

After a visitation to the afflicted regions, Engineer 'Abdullah Husain al-Ni'mah, the Executive Director of Qatar Charity, stated:" The Charity has approved a plan of succoring the afflicted regions. This plan will continue until October of this year, and it aims at improving the situation of 10 thousand people in the provinces of Khartoum and Sinar."

In the same vein, the Charity organized a" Working Cell" in order to deal with the catastrophe and to make the relief campaign successful. The cell comprised a specialized team whose task was to carry out a field survey for the most afflicted areas in order to specify their needs.

The launching of this campaign was attended by H.E. the Qatari Ambassador to Sudan, the Sudanese President's representative, the Second Deputy of the President's representative and H.E. Minister of Social Care.
