(London, February 6, 2018) Today, the Start Network is meeting a visiting delegation from Qatar Charity to present its membership certificate as a welcome to the organization following approval of their membership.

Start Network’s Vice Chairman Matthew Carter, Chief Executive Officer Sean Lowrie, and a number of its managers and officers as well as a delegation from Qatar Charity headed by its CEO Yousuf Bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, will attend the meeting.

In his welcome speech, Start Network CEO Mr. Sean Lowrie said:

“We welcome Qatar Charity and the fresh perspective and expertise it will bring to the Start Network, as we lead for change in humanitarian aid. We are a growing movement with a shared belief that the current system is not fit for purpose. Our newest member and its commitment to humanitarian values are central to the Start Network’s ethos and the driving force behind our work to improve the international aid system.”

For his part, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Charity expressed his gratitude on the QC’s admission to this network and said that this reflects the keenness of the Start Network to open up, cooperate and coordinate with humanitarian organizations outside the European Community and, in particular, with the humanitarian organizations in the South, as many of them, including Qatar Charity, have a lot of capacities, capabilities, skills and experiences that will constitute an added value to any alliance they join.

He stressed that Qatar Charity is keen to be an active and effective member of this alliance, in cooperation with the rest of its members in order to develop and improve humanitarian work, and enhance coordination and cooperation, especially in the crisis areas.

He noted that Qatar Charity has the experience of more than a quarter of a century in the field of humanitarian work. It operates in more than 60 countries worldwide through its 27 field offices as well as in partnerships with the United Nations agencies, pointing out that QC made 42 cooperation agreements with UN agencies.

“Qatar Charity also actively works with many international humanitarian organizations and institutions, which resulted in the signing of more than 93 partnership and cooperation agreements so far” Al-Kuwari Added.

Qatar Charity joined Start Network in February 2016 as observers, and in November 2017, it was granted full membership by the Start Network Board of Directors on the basis that all membership conditions are met. Membership is a recognition for the vital role played by Qatar Charity, as well as for its capabilities and experiences that it has at the regional and international levels.

‘Start Network’ based in UK, includes 42 national and international aid agencies and humanitarian organizations from five continents and provides quick and effective humanitarian assistance to those affected in the areas of humanitarian crisis.
