Some 354 orphans; both male and female, are enjoying the sponsorship provided by Qatar Charity (QC) within the State of Qatar. This sponsorship aims at improving their living conditions, providing them with better educational and health services and developing their capabilities through a series of activities.

The orphan sponsorship project receives a significant support from the sponsors in Qatar as well as from many local organizations and institutions as part of their community responsibility.

Educational Care

Sponsorship activities in the educational field include the school visit, which is a periodic activity organized in cooperation with school administrations to know the academic levels of those sponsored by the charity and ensure the improvement of their behavioral discipline.

School bags are also distributed to the sponsored students at the start of each academic year. Moreover, school supplies such as bags, notebooks, stationery, uniforms and others are provided to them in addition to paying their school fees.

Qatar Charity also seeks to invest the times of the sponsored students, especially their mid-year and summer vacations, in developing their talents and abilities through educational camps, which include cultural, sports and recreational activities in a safe and nurturing environment.

QC’s sponsorship project also aims at establishing partnerships with many organizations and institutions to benefit the orphans. For this purpose, the summer activities were held in cooperation with Al-Ahli Sports Club and Water Sports Club, in addition to the awareness program organized in cooperation with Qatar Voluntary Center.

Social Care

However, QC’s sponsorship activities in the social arena include the provision of the assistance regularly to the orphans and their families. Such aid includes the distribution of Ramadan supplies to the families of widows, which are foodstuff for the holy month, in addition to providing other kinds of assistance to the orphans and their families in Ramadan, and on Eid Al-Fir and Eid Al Adha.

QC has recently launched the Khairuna Li-Ahlina (Charity Starts at Home) initiative to garner support for its projects within Qatar. The initiative, at its first stage, aims to provide aid for more than 2,000 people each year through donations and monthly deductions worth half a million riyals (QR6mn annually).

The initiative includes eight main projects, which are treating patients, helping low-income families, providing support for their children’s education, providing water (Soqya), helping workers, repaying the debts for those in debt, consoling those in grief and ongoing charity.
