Qatar Charity, in partnership with the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, distributed 400 winter bags to low-income workers within the country, while medical examinations were conducted for them in cooperation with the Aster Medical Center.

The distribution of winter bags to workers came as part of Qatar Charity’s continued efforts to protect workers from the cold of winter and provide warmth for them under the “Laborers’ Winter” campaign, which was launched by the charity in early November last year.

Officials from the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, Qatar Charity, and Qatar Awareness Initiative have participated in distributing winter bags to workers from various Arab, Asian and African countries. The distribution of the winter bags, which included jacket, shoes, socks, shawl, blanket, and hat, was carried out in different parts of the country.

This project, which was implemented by the Friends Cultural Center (FCC), a Qatar Charity center for community development, aims at reviving the principle of giving, benevolence and charity, bringing pleasure to the needy and involving community members in initiatives, awareness-raising, health, cultural and sports programmes organized for laborers.

Khalid Al Emadi, occupational health and safety supervisor at the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, expressed his pleasure at attending this event. He said that the Ministry's participation in this good initiative came from the State of Qatar’s concern for the best interests of low-income people. He also considered that meeting the basic needs of the workers, supporting them and providing a dignified life for them, is a human right that must be taken into account.

Fareed Khaleel Al-Siddieqy, director of Projects and Centers Department at Qatar Charity, said, “Qatar Charity attaches great attention to low-income people by providing support and holding cultural, health and sports activities for them.”

Al-Siddieqy, also thanked the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, Ansar Gallery, Aster Medical Center, Qatar Awareness Initiative and all those who supported Qatar Charity in implementing the distribution of winter bags to workers.

He also extended special thanks to the owners of ranches and farms for hosting the event, including Youssef Mohsen Bukshisha, Khaled Abdulla Al Houti, Saleh Saqr Al Buainain and Nasser Ali Al Kaabi.

In the framework of the “Laborers’ Winter" campaign, some medical examinations were conducted for the workers, in which the medical team from the Aster Medical Center has cooperated with Qatar Charity. The team conducted the initial health assessment, blood pressure test, random blood sugar test, and obesity and weight test, in addition to making workers aware of the importance of healthy living and healthy habits.

Vishnu Prasad KS, officer, Media & Social Work, Aster DM Healthcare-Qatar, said, “cooperation with Qatar Charity is a valuable opportunity to carry out our social responsibility”. He also pointed out that the Aster Medical Center has already participated with Qatar Charity in such initiatives, stressing that center always seeks to contribute to community service as part of its corporate social responsibility towards the State of Qatar and its people.
