Qatar Charity opens orphanage in Swat, Pakistan

Qatar Charity, with the support from the people in Qatar, opened an orphanage in the Swat district of Pakistan to accommodate 100 orphans. The opening ceremony was attended by many local officials and diplomats at the Qatari Embassy in Pakistan.

The orphanage, which is located about 180 km away from the capital Islamabad, has five large halls for the accommodation of orphans sponsored by Qatar Charity, in addition to a dining hall, kitchen, prayer room, administrative offices, and play and entertainment spaces. The orphanage was built on an area of 365 square meters, taking into account the approved building and safety standards.

The orphanage was opened by HE Massoud Taleb Al-Azabi, second secretary at the Embassy of Qatar to Pakistan. The opening ceremony was also attended by Mr. Ameen Abdul Rahman, director of Qatar Charity’s office in Pakistan, in addition to many local officials and members of the Board of Directors of Khpal Kor Foundation, which will run the orphanage.

After the opening, the guests visited the facilities available at the orphanage and attended a presentation on Qatar Charity's efforts to serve orphans and its projects in the Swat district, in addition to listening to the recitation of the Holy Quran and the national anthem by orphans.

The ceremony concluded with a speech delivered by Mr. Ameen Abdul Rahman, director of Qatar Charity’s office in Pakistan, who thanked the guests for attending the opening ceremony and addressed orphans on the importance of learning to carry out an outstanding performance in their lives. He also promised to implement more development projects throughout Pakistan to provide special care for orphans and ease the suffering of poor families.

It is noteworthy that Qatar Charity started its activities in Pakistan in 1992 by sponsoring five orphans. The number of those sponsored by Qatar Charity rose to 6,000 persons during the current year, including orphans, people with disability, students, and poor families. Qatar Charity oversees all the sponsored in Pakistan directly through its field supervisors available across the country.

Pakistan is one of the countries facing natural disasters and crises, which result in large numbers of orphaned children in need of care and sponsorship.

Through its “Rofaqa” initiative, Qatar has so far sponsored more than 156,000 orphans across the globe, making it the largest family of orphans in the world. By the end of 2019, Qatar Charity aims to raise this number to 190,000 sponsored persons.
