The number of students sponsored by Qatar Charity (QC) has reached 4,864 in 35 countries, including with Somalia, with more than 700 sponsored students in the country.

The ‘Student Sponsorship’ project aims to help students, who are unable to afford their undergraduate and postgraduate studies, in order to contribute to building a brighter future for them.

The ‘Student Sponsorship’ has contributed to turning several sponsored students into prominent persons, who have achieved the first ranks academically and held important positions in their careers.

Among the inspiring success stories created by the students sponsored by Qatar Charity is that of Somalia’s Hussein Abu Bakr, who tells his story as below:

“I used to memorize the Holy Quran in the evening, while I used to graze the livestock in the morning.  Due to the humanitarian crisis faced by Somalia, my family was displaced to Mogadishu where I joined a Quran memorization center. However, due to the deterioration of the family's living situation, I started working as a school guard. In 2008, I applied for a guard post at Qatar Charity’s Somalia office. After being hired by Qatar Charity, I got enrolled in preparatory courses to join a regular school. In 2014, I graduated, with distinction, from the secondary school, and joined Mogadishu University’s Faculty of Shari’a and Law, with a scholarship from Qatar Charity. After the graduation from the university in 2018, I was nominated by Qatar Charity for the post of sponsorship supervisor. Now, I supervise 500 sponsored persons at its Somalia office.”
