Qatar Charity and Save the Children host joint session on ‘Building Resilient Childhoods in Afghanistan’

Qatar Charity (QC), in collaboration with Save the Children, organized a joint session titled 'Building Resilient Childhoods in Afghanistan' to discuss the most prominent developments and emerging visions in Afghanistan with regional and global relevance. The session was attended by officials from both organizations, alongside representatives from diplomatic missions, Qatari government bodies, the United Nations, and partners in humanitarian and development work. The session aimed to exchange experiences, think jointly about critical issues, and identify ways of future cooperation. It served as a platform to highlight local experiences and make the voices of less represented communities heard in the fields of humanitarian and development work. As Afghanistan faces multiple challenges which significantly impact the well-being of children and communities, the session discussed key topics, including different models for religious schools (Madrassa), protecting vulnerable groups, especially women and girls, and the impact of climate change on children in Afghanistan, with a focus on sustainable solutions for humanitarian and developmental challenges. During his opening remarks at the session, Mr. Nawaf Abdulla AlHammadi, Chief Global Operation Officer at Qatar Charity, said, “It is truly a pleasure to welcome our partners and colleagues for this important gathering. This joint session with Save the Children reflects our shared commitment to the wellbeing of the most vulnerable—especially children in Afghanistan, who continue to face tremendous challenges. At a time when global crises are escalating, partnerships like this one are not just valuable, they are essential. Together, we can move beyond raising concerns to driving real solutions and impact for children growing up in adversity. He also thanked Save the Children for actively taking part in the session. Ms. Gabriella Waaijman, Chief Operating officer at Save The children, expressed heartfelt thanks to Qatar Charity for hosting this joint important dialogue on building resilience for children in Afghanistan. She said, “This session comes at a critical time, as the humanitarian sector faces unprecedented financial shocks and uncertainty. Strong and strategic partnerships—like the one between Save the Children and Qatar Charity—are essential to protect the progress we have made and to reimagine a future where children not only survive but thrive. Through collaborative action and flexible funding, we can ensure that even amid crisis, hope and impact remain possible.' For his part, Mana Mohammed Al-Ansari, Director of External Affairs, at Qatar Charity, said, “The children of Afghanistan, like children everywhere, have a right to a life of safety, dignity, and opportunity. Yet, their reality is often defined by conflict, displacement, environmental crisis, and barriers to basic rights such as education and protection. We must center the voices of those who are too often unheard, and challenge ourselves to think beyond conventional approaches. Our collective task is to look towards solutions that are as multifaceted as the challenges we face. This includes bridging humanitarian response with long-term development and integrating climate resilience and education into our protection frameworks. The session concluded with a strong call to unify international efforts to bolster children's resilience in Afghanistan through strategic investment in education, protection, and effective partnerships—with special attention to the climate crisis, which continues to intensify children’s hardships and jeopardize their futures.

Qatar Charity delivers food aid to over 12,000 people in Bangladesh
As part of its ongoing humanitarian efforts, Qatar Charity (QC) has distributed vital food aid to vulnerable families in Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar, benefiting more than 12,000 individuals. The initiative aimed to ease the suffering of underprivileged communities and strengthen their resilience in the face of growing hardships. This humanitarian intervention comes in response to mounting challenges faced by fragile communities, including environmental degradation, deforestation, landslides, water scarcity, and increasing competition for essential resources such as land, employment, healthcare, and education. These pressures have placed a heavy burden on local infrastructure. Families who received the aid expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Qatar. “We have been struggling to feed our children as food prices have gone up and work becomes scarce,” said Sukh Bilash, a mother of three. “This food aid will help us feed our children for several days.” ‏Mr. Nur Mohammad Anowar, a representative of the local government, said, “Support for host communities is essential to maintaining harmony and sustainability. We appreciate Qatar Charity for stepping in and addressing the needs of our people.” It is worth mentioning that Qatar Charity executed a series of impactful medical initiatives in Bangladesh last month. These included a specialized medical camp for children with congenital heart defects, a dedicated campaign offering cardiac catheterization procedures for adults and the elderly, and the provision of medical aid and wheelchairs to various hospitals and healthcare centers in the country.

Qatar Charity Launches New Project to Support Displaced Families in Sudan
As part of its ongoing humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of families affected by war, Qatar Charity’s field teams in Sudan have launched a new initiative aimed at supporting displaced families in the states of Gedaref, Kassala, and the Red Sea. The project provides essential food supplies, daily meals, and basic shelter items to families planning to voluntarily return to their homes. Food and Shelter Assistance In Port Sudan, Qatar Charity carried out interventions at the “Peace and Happiness Between Two Homes” shelter center, as part of a broader initiative to provide meals and living essentials for displaced people. Meanwhile, in Gedaref, the charity implemented a series of successful food and shelter support interventions under the same project, benefiting thousands of displaced families. Displaced individuals from the Red Sea, Gedaref, and Kassala expressed their gratitude and relief upon receiving food and basic supplies, acknowledging the ongoing support they’ve received from the people of Qatar through Qatar Charity since the onset of the conflict. They highlighted how these initiatives have helped ease their humanitarian burden and strengthened their resilience. Facilitating Voluntary Return Habiba Hamza, a displaced woman from Khartoum now residing in Port Sudan, shared her appreciation for the food basket she received, which included essential items such as sugar, rice, lentils, oil, and milk. She emphasized the importance of such direct-impact aid, especially as many displaced families prepare to return home, they were left behind with little to no resources. She added that the ground mats and shelter supplies would be particularly useful, as they expect to find their homes in ruins or lacking necessities. This initiative has equipped many returnees with the essentials they need to begin rebuilding their lives. As security improves in their original regions, many displaced families are packing up and heading back home, taking with them food and basic household supplies to support their new beginnings. Meeting Critical Needs Displaced individuals in Gedaref also noted the significant positive impact of Qatar Charity’s food and relief assistance during this critical time. Ali Abdel Rahman, originally from Khartoum and now in Port Sudan’s shelter center, praised the consistent support from Qatar Charity since the outbreak of the war. He mentioned that the organization has continuously provided meals and essential items and called for continued support even after families return to their homes in Khartoum. Acting Director of Qatar Charity’s Sudan Office, Tareq Mohyeddin, stated that the organization has distributed food and essential living supplies to displaced individuals from various states who have been enduring extremely difficult conditions due to food shortages. He added that the project successfully addressed the basic needs of many displaced people in the Red Sea, Gedaref, and Kassala, offering critical support in food, clothing, and shelter.
