Social Housing

Around 1.6 billion people worldwide lack adequate housing, with an estimated 150 million people being homeless.

Challenges

International human rights law recognizes everyone's right to an adequate standard of living, including adequate housing.

Unfortunately, more than 1.5 billion people still lack access to a place where they can live in security, peace and dignity and millions more lose their homes every year due to poverty and marginalization.

At Qatar Charity, we believe that housing is a foundation from which other legal entitlements can be achieved, and that the lack thereof impedes the ability of vulnerable groups to access health, education and employment opportunities, further deepening inequalities and exclusion of vulnerable groups.

Spotlight 2025

Comprehensive Community Development in Nigeria

In Kaduna State, Nigeria, a new community development project is providing dozens of families with the resources needed to rebuild their lives with stability and independence.

The initiative comprises 50 residential units, a primary school, a medical clinic, 10 commercial shops, a mosque, a deep-water well, and agricultural land. Together, these facilities address essential needs while creating opportunities for families to generate income and support themselves.

The project delivers safe housing for 50 families, farmland for 40 families, and commercial spaces for 10 families to operate small businesses. By integrating housing, education, healthcare, and income-generating activities, it establishes a practical foundation for long-term self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.

Integrated housing projects of this kind play a vital role in sustainable development by addressing multiple community needs within a single framework.

By combining schools, healthcare facilities, commercial spaces, and employment opportunities alongside housing, they create environments where families can access essential services, build economic resilience, and foster stronger, more cohesive communities over the long term.
