Qatar Charity (QC) has inaugurated 49 solar-powered wells in Ghana for the benefit of over 34,300 people. These boreholes are located in various areas of the Eastern, Central, Northern, and Greater Accra regions where the Need for Drinking Water is most acute. This is part of Qatar Charity’s continued implementation of the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) projects in the country.
Unprecedented Achievement
The initiative has received significant appreciation from various bodies. The Ghanaian Member of Parliament and community leader, Mr. Abdul Latif Dan, described Qatar Charity's interventions in the WASH sector as vital and unprecedented both in terms of quantity and quality. He indicated that they had never seen an achievement before in the field of well drilling with such speed, quality, and quantity, noting the inauguration of this significant number of wells within one month. He stated, "Qatar Charity's significant efforts directly contribute to addressing the acute water shortage problem among the citizens of Ghana."
Unique Experience
Amidst the overwhelming joy of the people from Bulenga located in the Upper West region of Ghana, the operation of the well project implemented by Qatar Charity has commenced, as part of its solution to the water problem in the area through solar panels and sustainable and climate-resistant pumps. This experience was considered unique by several engineers in the area.
The central well project provides clean and safe drinking water to more than 1500 people in the area, through a network of pipes and stationary storage tanks at various central points, in addition to installing water networks and taps to facilitate access to all.
Environmentally Friendly Project
The residents of Bulenga have described the project as the most significant water intervention the village has ever seen. Mr. Abdullah Mohamed Chago, a local official, expressed gratitude to the benevolent people in Qatar and explained that the lack of access to clean drinking water was a major issue for the entire village before being successfully addressed by Qatar Charity through an environmentally friendly project.
He added, “The project provides sufficient water for the most vulnerable and deserving members of the community in the Upper West region of Ghana. It will have a sustainable impact on enhancing health and well-being for the entire community. The solar-powered water distribution system represents a positive step towards improving living conditions and fostering development prospects in this remote village in the Upper West region of Ghana.”
