Qatar Charity has implemented an emergency humanitarian relief project in Burkina Faso, providing food assistance to 310 vulnerable displaced families in the capital, Ouagadougou, and the city of Koudougou, benefiting more than 1,550 people.
The intervention seeks to address the immediate food needs of displaced and impoverished families, help protect vulnerable communities from the worsening risks of food insecurity, and provide essential support amid the country’s growing displacement crisis.
Burkina Faso continues to face waves of displacement, with thousands of families forced to flee their homes in search of safety. The resulting disruption to livelihoods and access to essential services has further intensified food insecurity and placed additional pressure on already vulnerable communities.
As part of the project, beneficiary families received food baskets containing essential staples, including rice, sugar, cooking oil, and infant formula. Each basket was designed to meet the nutritional needs of a family for one month, providing critical assistance at a time of deteriorating living conditions and rising food insecurity.
Commenting on the initiative, Ms. Edith Bila, Mayor of the Central Region, expressed her appreciation for Qatar Charity’s humanitarian efforts, noting that the organization’s intervention is helping save lives and alleviate the suffering of people facing increasingly difficult circumstances.
Dr. Mohamed Ali Ahmed Adam, Director of Qatar Charity’s Office in Burkina Faso, said: “The urgent assistance provided to displaced families reflects Qatar Charity’s commitment to delivering a rapid and effective humanitarian response in times of crisis and disaster. It also embodies the solidarity of the people of Qatar with communities affected by humanitarian crises.”
He added that Qatar Charity remains committed to responding to urgent humanitarian needs in Burkina Faso and supporting vulnerable communities through timely interventions that address their most pressing needs.
The distribution was carried out in coordination with local authorities and committees supporting displaced people in the targeted areas. This coordination helped ensure that assistance reached the most vulnerable families efficiently and transparently, while maximizing the impact of the humanitarian response on the ground.
The project forms part of Qatar Charity’s broader humanitarian efforts in Burkina Faso. Earlier this year, the organization implemented several projects in northern parts of the country under its “Urgent Relief” initiative, providing essential assistance to affected families and contributing to efforts to improve their living conditions.
