Spotlights 2025

Strengthening Healthcare in Somaliland Through Partnership with King’s College London

In partnership with King’s College London, Qatar Charity launched a two-year National Healthcare Quality Improvement Programme in Somaliland. With a grant of approximately £1.1 million, the initiative is implemented in collaboration with the Somaliland Ministry of Health Development and the World Health Organization to advance healthcare quality across all six regional public hospitals, which collectively serve more than 45,000 patients annually. The programme aims to establish robust infection prevention and control measures, create patient-safety committees, and deliver comprehensive training to hospital staff, from senior administrators to frontline workers.

It will also enhance medical education by updating undergraduate curricula and mapping priority postgraduate specialisms in line with the population’s health needs. In addition, a national  People’s Voice Survey was conducted to capture community perspectives on care and guided the development of Somaliland’s National Quality Policy and Strategy. This partnership underscores Qatar Charity’s commitment to supporting sustainable health systems in fragile contexts and reflects its broader mission to promote equitable access to quality healthcare worldwide.
