Qatar Charity Provides Cash Assistance to Displaced Families in Somalia
With the support of generous donors in Qatar, Qatar Charity has provided cash assistance to 1,530 families affected by food insecurity in camps on the outskirts of Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital. The intervention is part of Qatar Charity’s ongoing humanitarian efforts to support vulnerable communities and help families meet their basic needs amid mounting economic and humanitarian challenges. Implemented in the Deynile district, the project supported families living in displacement camps, with each household receiving USD 60—equivalent to the cost of a food basket. The assistance enabled beneficiaries to purchase essential food items while helping ease the daily pressures facing vulnerable households. Supporting Families in Displacement Camps Abdulfatah Adam Moalim, Director of Qatar Charity’s office in Somalia, said the project forms part of a wider package of humanitarian interventions designed to support the most vulnerable families. “Qatar Charity continues to respond to the growing needs of families affected by food insecurity in Somalia,” he said. “Through this project, many families have been able to better cope with the harsh living conditions and livelihood challenges they are facing.” Ibrahim Sheikh, a camp official, said the assistance came at a critical time, as families continued to face worsening food insecurity and rising prices for basic commodities. “Families in the camps are struggling to access food because of inflation and the high cost of essential items,” he said. “This support has helped ease the burden on many families in need at a time when humanitarian assistance was urgently needed. We are deeply grateful to the generous donors in Qatar for their continued support for affected families in Somalia.” Beneficiary Huda Omar Farah said the assistance had made an immediate difference for her family. “After a difficult period of hardship and hunger, I can now buy food for my children,” she said. “I thank everyone who helped deliver this support to us.” Another beneficiary, Kulthum Moalim, said the cash assistance gave families the flexibility to buy the food items they needed most, according to their own priorities and circumstances. She expressed her appreciation to the donors and to Qatar Charity for standing by families affected by the crisis. The project is part of Qatar Charity’s continued efforts to strengthen food security and improve living conditions for vulnerable communities in Somalia. In 2025, Qatar Charity implemented 233 projects across various regions of the country, benefiting more than 267,000 people. These efforts reflect Qatar Charity’s commitment to supporting affected communities, helping them address humanitarian and economic challenges, and promoting greater stability and self-reliance.
