Qatar Charity Opens Sewing Workshop for Women Graduates in Mauritania

Qatar Charity (QC), in cooperation with Mauritania’s Ministry of Social Action, Childhood and Family, has inaugurated a sewing workshop in Nouakchott to support female graduates of the Women’s Empowerment Training Center. The project, implemented through Qatar Charity Mauritania Branch, targets breadwinners of vulnerable families and aims to enhance their economic empowerment through sustainable income-generating opportunities. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Ms. Lalla Fatimetou Mint Seddik Ould Larbi, Adviser to the Minister of Social Action, Childhood and Family; Mr. Fahd Salem Al-Dosari, Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Mauritania; Mr. Akhyarhoum Ould El Mostafa, Deputy Governor of Nouakchott West; Eng. Omer Abdelaziz Mohamed, Country Director of Qatar Charity’s Mauritania Branch; Ms. Yent Agjereb, Director of the Women’s Empowerment Training Center; and several officials from the ministry and Qatar Charity. Speaking at the event, Eng. Omer Abdelaziz Mohamed highlighted the strong partnership between Qatar Charity and the ministry, noting that the project reflects the organization’s commitment to promoting sustainable economic empowerment. He said the workshop aims to provide graduates with employment opportunities and a stable source of income, helping improve the living conditions of their families. He added that the initiative goes beyond job creation by linking production with marketing opportunities through partnerships developed by the ministry with various institutions. These efforts are expected to support the project’s long-term sustainability and strengthen women’s participation in economic activities. For his part, Mr. Fahd Salem Al-Dosari said the workshop is an example of the strong cooperation between Qatar and Mauritania and reflects their shared commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and advancing economic and social empowerment. He stressed that Qatar continues to support development initiatives that create a lasting impact, in partnership with government institutions. Meanwhile, Ms. Lalla Fatimetou Mint Seddik Ould Larbi said the project helps build the capacities of young women and enhance their economic independence by providing them with skills needed in the labor market. SJC, Qatar Charity launch humanitarian partnership to protect, support custodial children
The Enforcement Court and the Alaqraboon Center of Qatar Charity signed a memorandum of cooperation aimed at providing an integrated support system for custodial children, which contributes to promoting a healthy upbringing environment for them and supporting their social and psychological needs, in addition to providing a range of supportive services, programs and activities in coordination with the office of child custody affairs. In a statement on Sunday, the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) said that this step reflects the State of Qatar's commitment to enhancing child protection, consolidating family stability, and institutional cooperation between the judicial and charitable sectors, in order to achieve the goals of the National Initiative to Develop Justice Systems. SJC pointed out that, under the memorandum, the two parties will cooperate in providing a package of humanitarian and social services, including urgent living assistance, support for the basic needs of foster and needy families, and contributing to providing educational support for children, in addition to implementing programs and activities that contribute to enhancing their psychological and social stability, in accordance with the approved regulations, rules and policies. Deputy President of the Enforcement Court HE Judge Mohammed Khalifa Al Kubaisi stressed that the signing of the memorandum between the SJC and the Alaqraboon Center of Qatar Charity embodies the vision of the State of Qatar in establishing comprehensive justice, based on the directives of the wise leadership, which emphasizes the importance of preserving and strengthening the basic components of the family and society, in a way that consolidates child protection and enhances social cohesion, which the National Initiative to Develop Justice Systems was keen to include within the developmental and support programs of the Enforcement Court, and to update family enforcement procedures in light of the updated Judicial Enforcement Law No. (4) of 2024. He indicated that the memorandum establishes an effective institutional partnership to support custodial children and deserving families, thereby mitigating the social and economic impacts of family disputes and reflecting the judiciary's mission to serve the community in addition to enforcing justice. In turn, Executive Director of Alaqraboon Center Faisal Rashid Al Fehaida emphasized that this memorandum represents a humanitarian partnership with a sustainable impact. He noted that charitable work is not limited to providing aid, but extends to empowering families and enhancing their stability. Qatar Charity Implements 28 Projects for 2,000 Beneficiaries in Burkina Faso
As part of its ongoing humanitarian and development efforts, Qatar Charity (QC), through its Burkina Faso Branch, implemented a series of projects and activities, benefiting nearly 2,000 vulnerable people across several regions of the country. The initiatives included the implementation of 28 development projects, alongside participation in key national activities, highlighting the vital role played by Qatar Charity in supporting sustainable development efforts and strengthening cooperation with government institutions and development partners. Official and Community Participation The inauguration ceremonies were attended by senior government representatives, mayors, officials from relevant ministries, community leaders, and other local stakeholders, reflecting the significance of the projects and the confidence placed in Qatar Charity’s work by local communities and authorities. Multi-Sector Projects The projects included the inauguration of four mosques in several areas. Each mosque comprises a 70-square-meter prayer hall, four sanitation units, and ablution facilities, providing suitable spaces for worship and serving the needs of local communities. Qatar Charity also inaugurated two Quran Memorization Centers in two different areas. Each center covers an area of 306 square meters and consists of classrooms, a boarding facility, a dining hall, a kitchen, and other integrated service facilities, helping enhance educational opportunities for younger generations. In the water sector, the organization inaugurated two 30-meter-deep shallow wells in in various locations, improving access to clean water and reducing the burden on residents. As part of its economic empowerment efforts, Qatar Charity handed over 20 shops to low-income families, enabling beneficiaries to establish sustainable sources of income and improve their living conditions. s Qatar Charity also took part in a forum organized by the Ministry of Health to develop the National Eye Health Strategic Plan (2026–2030). The participation helped strengthen coordination among stakeholders and support efforts to expand access to sight-restoring surgeries for people affected by eye diseases and visual impairments. Qatar Charity’s Burkina Faso Branch participated in the Ministry of Agriculture's meeting for coordinating humanitarian food security interventions, ensuring unified efforts and an effective response to the needs of vulnerable households. Tangible Impact The beneficiaries expressed great satisfaction with the tangible improvements achieved in their lives, emphasizing that these projects contributed to meeting basic needs, enhancing educational opportunities, and promoting Islamic values. Qatar Charity launches pediatric catheterization and open-heart surgeries in Sudan
Qatar Charity has launched a specialized medical initiative in Sudan to provide pediatric catheterization and open-heart surgeries, as part of Qatar’s continued humanitarian and health support amid the ongoing conflict. The project was inaugurated at the Wad Madani Center for Cardiac Surgery and Diseases in Gezira State, with the participation of Sudan’s Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim; the Governor of Gezira State, Al-Tahir Ibrahim Al-Khair; and the Acting Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of the State of Qatar, Mr. Abdullah Rashid Al-Khater. Support for Sudan’s health system Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim praised Qatar Charity’s support for Sudan’s health sector, noting that its medical camps in ophthalmology, pediatric catheterization, and open-heart surgery reflect the gradual restoration of normal life in Gezira State and the recovery of the local health system. He said Qatar’s support has contributed to rehabilitating hospitals and strengthening Gezira’s role as a national medical hub. The Governor of Gezira State expressed appreciation to the State of Qatar its Amir, government, and people and to Qatar Charity for its continued support. He emphasized that the project would provide vital medical services to children and ease the financial and emotional burden on their families. Part of broader humanitarian programs Mr. Abdullah Rashid Al-Khater said the pediatric heart surgeries are part of the diverse humanitarian and medical programs Qatar Charity has continued to implement in Sudan since the beginning of the war. He noted that the launch coincided with an eye surgery program to remove cataracts in four Sudanese states, benefiting more than 600 people. He also thanked the doctors, nurses, and hospital teams whose efforts are helping relieve children’s suffering. Responding to urgent medical needs Professor Salah Al-Basha, Director General of the National Heart Center and Senior Consultant Cardiologist at the Ministry of Health, said the camp is the first of its kind since the war. He highlighted the urgent need for such interventions, particularly after years of conflict led to a growing backlog of children awaiting treatment. Giving children a chance at normal life Eng. Khalid Abdullah Al-Yafei, , assistant to the chief executive officer(CEO) said 50 specialized operations will be carried out under the initiative, including cardiac catheterizations and open-heart surgeries. Al-Yafei added that the initiative forms part of Qatar Charity’s integrated health program in Sudan. The program includes a blindness prevention campaign in Wad Madani, which is expected to benefit more than 2,000 patients through medical examinations and more than 200 cataract surgeries. A cochlear implant program for children is also scheduled to begin next week at Doha Hospital in Khartoum. Dr. Abdul Majeed Al-Hamidi, Expert in Programs and International Development at Qatar Charity, said the specialized medical camp for repairing congenital heart defects in children at the Heart Hospital in Wad Madani recorded 17 successful operations on its first day, including 15 catheterization procedures and two open-heart surgeries. He noted that the project, supported by benefactors in Qatar, reflects Qatar Charity’s belief that investing in health is an investment in the future of humanity.
