Qatar Charity Distributes New Relief Supplies to Displaced Families in Sudan

Qatar Charity (QC) has implemented a new humanitarian intervention for internally displaced persons (IDPs) from El Fasher and Greater Darfur in Sudan’s Khartoum State. Supported by a Qatari donor, the organization’s field teams in Omdurman delivered food, shelter, and non-food items (NFIs) to hundreds of families. Wada’a Al-Amin, Representative of the Khartoum State Commission for Voluntary and Humanitarian Work (CVHW), acknowledged Qatar Charity's significant support for those fleeing the conflict. He noted that the aid distribution targeted around 400 displaced families from El Fasher, under the supervision of CVHW to ensure that aid reached those most in need. Displaced individuals from El Fasher praised Qatar Charity and the donors of Qatar for their ongoing efforts in easing the humanitarian crisis. Essential aid, including food, blankets, medicines, and hygiene kits, was distributed to IDPs fleeing to Khartoum State. Al-Wafid Al-Sir, Representative of the Darfur IDP Committee in Khartoum State, expressed his gratitude to Qatar Charity for providing humanitarian assistance to families displaced from various Darfur states. He noted that over 22,000 displaced persons from Darfur have been registered in Khartoum, all of whom require further humanitarian aid to overcome this ordeal. He voiced his hope for the cessation of the causes of displacement and for the safe return of all IDPs to their original homes. Tariq Mohieddin, Acting Country Director of Qatar Charity’s Sudan Office, revealed that the distribution included 470 food baskets containing essential supplies, 1,000 blankets, 500 personal hygiene kits, and significant quantities of essential medicines. He further explained that during the current month, Qatar Charity has implemented a large-scale project featuring four humanitarian convoys for El Fasher’s displaced populations in Al-Dabbah. These convoys focused on providing essential food, livelihoods, healthcare, and dignified housing. He added that high-impact humanitarian projects will continue to be implemented across several states in the coming period.

The campaign will further include support for 2,500 urgent humanitarian cases inside Qatar. Food Security and Water Projects The campaign will go beyond Udhiyah and Eid clothing to mobilize support for an integrated package of food security and water projects outside Qatar. These will include food baskets, hot meals, support for community kitchens and bakeries, in addition to interventions to address malnutrition in countries most affected by hunger. It will also mobilize support for clean water projects, like drilling wells, to help communities facing severe drought and water shortages. A key component of the campaign is the “10×10 Initiative,” which features ten high‑impact projects during the first ten days of Dhul‑Hijjah, focusing on food security and economic empowerment—such as feeding programs, income‑generating projects, and support for vulnerable families—offering donors multiple opportunities to maximize the impact of their contributions. Maximizing Humanitarian Impact Commenting on the campaign, Mr. Abdulaziz Jassim Hejji, Executive Director of Communications and Community Impact Qatar Charity, stated: “The Most Blessed Days” campaign comes at a time when humanitarian needs are rising in several regions around the world. Qatar Charity is committed to directing its interventions toward those most in need, in accordance with the highest professional standards. During these blessed days, we recall the saying of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): “There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.” This serves as a powerful motivation for everyone to seize the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah to multiply their charitable acts and expand their reach, ultimately helping us serve the greatest number of beneficiaries and maximize our collective humanitarian impact.' Qatar Charity Conducts Sight-Restoring Surgeries for Eye Patients in Nigeria
As part of its ongoing 'Ibsar' (Eyesight) Initiative to combat avoidable blindness and visual impairment, Qatar Charity (QC), in partnership with Middle East Clinic Limited, has successfully concluded an extensive medical and surgical campaign in Gombe State, Federal Republic of Nigeria. The campaign targeted hundreds of individuals from low-income households and underserved communities. Cataracts: A Major Challenge Gombe State, famously nicknamed as the “Jewel in the Savannah”, has over 3.2 million residents, many of whom in rural and low‑income communities lack access to basic healthcare, including eye care. Poverty, long distances to hospitals, harsh climate, and low awareness leave thousands, especially the elderly living with untreated cataracts. Cataracts remain the leading cause of preventable blindness in northeastern Nigeria, accounting for more than half of all cases. Community Awareness Campaign The seven-day campaign, conducted in April 2026, focused on large-scale community screening and specialized surgical interventions at the Gombe State Specialist Hospital. Prior to the start of activities, Qatar Charity carried out a wide‑ranging awareness campaign in coordination with a supporting medical team, government officials, and community leaders to ensure access for the most vulnerable populations. During the campaign, 1,050 individuals—men, women, and children—underwent thorough eye examinations. Based on clinical assessments, 240 patients (118 males and 112 females) were selected for eye surgeries, while 810 others received free medication and medical consultations. Beneficiaries ranged in age from 6 to 95 years, reflecting the programme’s broad reach across different age groups. life‑changing Impact The outreach had a life‑changing impact on many beneficiaries, particularly elderly persons and children who were prioritised during the intervention. Restored sight has enabled beneficiaries to regain independence, improve productivity, and reconnect with their families and communities. “I came this morning as a blind, I can neither seen nor read, but Alhamdulillah, after the surgery, my hope in life has been restored because I regain my sight” said Magaji Musa, 70. On this occasions, Qatar Charity reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access to quality eye care in Nigeria and pledged to continue supporting targeted eye‑health interventions aimed at reducing preventable blindness across vulnerable communities.

Qatar Charity distributes 500 bicycles to students in Sri Lanka
Qatar Charity (QC), with support from donors, has completed the first phase of its flagship educational initiative in Sri Lanka, which aims to distribute 2,000 bicycles to students in remote areas. Recently, 500 bicycles were distributed during this stage to empower students to reach their schools easily and safely. This initiative comes in response to the significant challenges faced by students in rural areas, where many are forced to walk distances ranging from 3 to 5 kilometers daily to attend classes. These difficult commutes often negatively impact their regular attendance and academic performance. Financial Burden The first phase of the bicycle distribution covered several districts, including Gampaha, Anuradhapura, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, and Ampara. The initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on underprivileged families, reduce school dropout rates, and ensure students reach their schools on time with less physical effort, ultimately contributing to better educational outcomes. During the distribution ceremony held at Zahira National School in the Anuradhapura District, Mr. Ananda Rathnayake, Coordinating Secretary to the Governor’s Office of the North Central Province, expressed his deep appreciation for Qatar Charity's efforts. He emphasized that such initiatives play a vital role in reducing dropout rates and strengthening educational development in the province. Long-Awaited Dream The beneficiary students expressed their immense joy at this support. Raheem Mohamed Althaf, a 6th-grade student at Al Mina Maha Vidyalayam, noted that the bicycle has enabled him to be independent and arrive on time after previously struggling with delays. Mohamed Sameem Fathima Shima, a 9th-grade student at Mutur An Noor Ladies College, explained how the bicycle has eased her parents' worries regarding her safety and transportation costs. Meanwhile, Mohamed Ismath Afnan, a 10th-grade student at Al Hilal Central College, described receiving the bicycle as a long-awaited dream come true, allowing him to attend school regularly and even take his younger brother with him. Extended Efforts It is worth noting that Qatar Charity's efforts in Sri Lanka extend beyond the distribution of bicycles. The organization is currently implementing several educational construction projects, including two complete schools and a three-story science laboratory, all scheduled for handover before the end of this year. These efforts, along with the distribution of school kits and stationery, reaffirm Qatar Charity’s commitment to supporting the education sector and investing in the future of generations.
