Qatar Charity Supports Vulnerable Families in Tanzania with Food Assistance

Qatar Charity has distributed food baskets to vulnerable families in Tanzania’s Pwani Region, providing essential food assistance to 1,127 people as part of its continued humanitarian efforts to support communities facing difficult living conditions. Implemented by Qatar Charity’s office in Tanzania, the project provided 161 food baskets to families identified as being among the most in need. The assistance was designed to help households meet essential food requirements while easing some of the financial pressures affecting low-income families, orphans, and other vulnerable groups. Amjad Al-Tahhan, Director of Qatar Charity’s Office in Tanzania, explained that the food assistance provided in Pwani forms part of Qatar Charity’s broader humanitarian efforts to stand alongside vulnerable communities and respond to their most pressing needs. “Meeting the needs of vulnerable people cannot be limited to a single project or temporary intervention,” Al-Tahhan said, emphasizing that such initiatives form part of a broader and sustained humanitarian approach aimed at supporting communities according to their priorities and needs. He noted that Pwani is among the areas experiencing the effects of climate-related challenges, which have placed additional pressure on people’s livelihoods and living conditions. The food distribution project therefore represents one of Qatar Charity’s efforts to help alleviate these pressures and provide timely support to affected families. Al-Tahhan added that the initiative is not intended as a one-off intervention, but rather as part of Qatar Charity’s ongoing humanitarian engagement in support of vulnerable communities, guided by needs identified through field assessments. The food baskets contained a range of staple items commonly required by families for their daily nutritional needs. By providing these essential supplies, the project helped families cover part of their immediate food needs and reduce household expenditure on basic commodities. The initiative was implemented through close coordination with the local community, helping ensure that assistance reached those most in need. Beyond addressing immediate food requirements, the intervention contributed to easing household financial pressures and promoting the values of solidarity, compassion, and social responsibility. Mauritania’s Ministry of Health and Qatar Charity Sign a Memorandum of Understanding
Mauritania’s Ministry of Health and Qatar Charity have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation in the health sector, supporting the Ministry’s priorities and responding to the population’s basic needs, in line with national health strategies and policies. The memorandum was signed on behalf of the Ministry of Health by the Ministry’s Secretary-General, Alia Yahya Maknous, while it was signed on behalf of Qatar Charity by the Director of its office in Mauritania, Omar Abdulaziz Mohamed. The signing ceremony was attended by Ministry officials and staff, along with several Qatar Charity officials. The memorandum aims to organize frameworks of cooperation between the two parties in several vital health fields, most notably training, qualification and capacity-building, the construction and equipping of health facilities, the organization of medical campaigns and convoys, as well as support for financing and revolving financing mechanisms. The Ministry of Health will be responsible for operating and maintaining the health facilities benefiting from this cooperation. On this occasion, the Secretary-General of Mauritania’s Ministry of Health, Ms. Alia Yahya Maknous, welcomed the partnership with Qatar Charity, expressing the Ministry’s readiness to cooperate and provide all the facilities needed by the organization in this sector. She emphasized the importance of the health initiatives that Qatar Charity’s office is working to launch. For his part, the Director of Qatar Charity’s office in Mauritania, Engineer Omar Abdulaziz Mohamed, thanked the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health for the Ministry’s readiness and keenness to cooperate through the facilities it has continued to provide to the office to ensure the success of its health projects. He added that these new projects represent a significant qualitative shift in view of the groups and specialties they target, noting that Qatar Charity bases its projects on the plans and strategies of the Mauritanian government. Cardiology Center In a related development, Qatar Charity’s office in Mauritania also signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Cardiology Center. The memorandum aims to organize the relationship between the two parties in a way that enhances cooperation in the fields of health and cardiology, identifies mutually beneficial areas of cooperation, supports health services, and implements specialized treatment programs such as cardiac catheterization procedures and the correction of heart defects, in addition to building the capacity of local healthcare workers and organizing medical campaigns and convoys. The memorandum was signed on behalf of Qatar Charity by the Director of its office in Mauritania, Omar Abdulaziz Mohamed, and on behalf of the Center by its Director-General, Ahmed Abba El-Walati. Specialized Campaigns With the support of donors, Qatar Charity is currently implementing several specialized health initiatives in Mauritania. These include establishing a new health center, organizing open-heart surgery campaigns benefiting 18 children, providing cochlear implants for children with hearing loss, treating patients with sight-threatening cataracts, and distributing life-saving medicines. The organization is also implementing a months-long malnutrition control program in many of Mauritanian districts, with the aim of improving the health and nutritional status of the most vulnerable groups. It is worth noting that Qatar Charity completed the construction of two health centers in Mauritania last year, one of them in the capital, Nouakchott, as part of its efforts to support the health sector and enhance people’s access to basic medical services.

Qatar Charity Launches Cochlear Implant Program for Children in Khartoum
Qatar Charity has launched a cochlear implant program for children at Doha Hospital in Khartoum, marking the resumption of this specialized service in Sudan for the first time since the outbreak of the war. The launch ceremony was attended by Sudan’s Federal Minister of Health, the Governor of Khartoum State, and the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Sudan, alongside health and humanitarian officials. Restoring Specialized Care Sudan’s Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, said the restoration of cochlear implant services represents an important milestone in rebuilding specialized healthcare in Khartoum. “Restoring cochlear implant services in Sudan is not an ordinary event, but a major achievement and a milestone in the return of specialized services in Khartoum,” he said. Dr. Ibrahim expressed appreciation to donors in Qatar for their continued support, noting that cochlear implant services in Sudan were first introduced with Qatari assistance. He said the resumption of the service reflects renewed support for Sudan’s health sector at a critical time. Khartoum Governor Ahmed Osman Hamza thanked the State of Qatar, its government and people, and supporting organizations for their assistance to Khartoum State and Sudan more broadly. He said the program will provide an important service for families in need of specialized hearing care. Qatar-Supported Medical Programs Qatar’s Ambassador to Sudan, H.E. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sada, said the program reflects Qatar’s continued commitment to supporting the Sudanese people. He noted that Qatar-backed medical campaigns and camps have been launched in several Sudanese states, including initiatives in ophthalmology and urology, with further programs planned in coordination with the Federal Ministry of Health. Dr. Abdul Majeed Al Humaidi, Qatar Charity’s international programs and development expert, said the initiative aims to help children access sound, communication, education, and social integration. “We are certain that investing in children’s health is an investment in the future of an entire nation,”. Ten Surgeries Planned Amid High Demand Dr. Ibrahim Ali Omar, Acting Director of Doha Specialized Hospital, said 300 children had applied for electronic cochlear implant surgery, while 10 operations are planned under the program. He said the figures underscore the need for additional support to expand access for children for whom hearing aids are no longer sufficient, particularly as many families cannot afford the high cost of the procedure. The cochlear implant program builds on Qatar Charity’s recent specialized health initiatives in Sudan. These include four eye-care and surgery camps that examined 6,000 people with visual impairments and performed 600 operations in cooperation with Makkah Hospital in Port Sudan, Sennar, Wad Madani, and River Nile State. Qatar Charity also held a medical camp for children with congenital heart conditions at Madani Heart Center, where 60 procedures were performed through cardiac catheterization and open-heart surgery. In addition, it has supplied hospitals with medical equipment and materials, including kidney dialysis machines, laboratory equipment, intensive care devices, and neonatal incubators, with support from donors in Qatar. Through these interventions, Qatar Charity continues to support access to essential and specialized healthcare services for vulnerable communities in Sudan, in coordination with local authorities and health partners.

Qatar Charity Implements Relief Project to Support 1,200 Flood-Affected Families in The Gambia
Qatar Charity has implemented an integrated relief project to support flood-affected families in the Republic of The Gambia, as part of its humanitarian mission and ongoing efforts to respond to natural disasters and assist vulnerable communities. The project was carried out in coordination with the National Disaster Management Agency and local authorities in the affected areas to ensure that assistance reached eligible beneficiaries in an organized and effective manner. The project, valued at QAR 670,000, aimed to alleviate the suffering of families whose homes, belongings, and livelihoods were affected by the floods. It provided food and non-food assistance, as well as construction and shelter materials to support recovery and rehabilitation efforts. An Integrated Project The project benefited 1,200 families in some of the hardest-hit areas. The intervention included the distribution of 1,200 food baskets containing essential items to help strengthen food security and meet the urgent daily needs of beneficiary families. The project also included the distribution of 1,200 blankets as part of its non-food assistance, helping improve shelter conditions and provide protection and comfort for affected families, particularly amid the difficult humanitarian conditions that followed the floods. These materials enabled families whose homes were fully or partially damaged to begin repair and rehabilitation work, helping them restore stability and secure safer shelter. Part of the construction materials was also allocated to the most vulnerable households, including families caring for orphans. Humanitarian Solidarity Mahmoud Shaker, Director of Qatar Charity’s office in the Republic of The Gambia, said the project reflects Qatar Charity’s commitment to continuing its humanitarian role in supporting communities affected by disasters and crises. He added that cooperation among charitable organizations, government entities, and local communities is essential to ensure that aid reaches those most in need and creates a sustainable impact on the lives of affected families. Several local officials emphasized that Qatar Charity’s intervention came at a time when many families were facing difficult humanitarian conditions caused by the floods. They noted that the assistance provided not only met basic needs but also helped restore stability and reassurance to thousands of affected people. The Governor of the Central River Region praised Qatar Charity’s humanitarian and development efforts in The Gambia, affirming that the project had a direct and tangible impact on affected families and helped restore hope to many households that had lost their homes and sources of income. The Governor of the Lower River Region also commended Qatar Charity’s swift response to urgent humanitarian needs, noting that the project helped affected families make a fresh start and gave them a real opportunity to resume their normal lives. The Executive Director of the National Disaster Management Agency expressed appreciation for Qatar Charity’s efforts, stressing that the organization is one of the key humanitarian partners supporting the Gambian government’s response efforts. He added that the project helped preserve the dignity of affected families, support their recovery from the impact of the floods, and enable them to work toward a better future.
