Qatar Charity Provides 145 Sewing Machines to Women in Burkina Faso

With the support of generous donors, Qatar Charity (QC) has implemented around 145 economic empowerment projects in Burkina Faso, providing sewing machines and supplies to women and girls from vulnerable communities and internally displaced families. Benefiting 1,015 people, the initiative forms part of QC’s efforts to strengthen livelihoods and promote economic self-reliance among those most in need. The initiative is designed to help beneficiaries launch income-generating activities or expand their existing businesses, improving their living conditions and advancing their economic and social inclusion. The support is especially significant amid the difficult circumstances facing many families and internally displaced people. Building a Future The project was implemented in coordination with Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Family and Solidarity, which oversaw the distribution of sewing machines. The ministry commended its partnership with Qatar Charity, describing QC as a trusted partner whose work supports government priorities in social protection and economic empowerment. It also highlighted QC’s contribution to expanding access to vocational opportunities and improving livelihoods for vulnerable groups, particularly women, orphans and internally displaced people. Beneficiaries said Qatar Charity’s support had transformed their lives by providing them with a sustainable source of income, greater financial stability and a stronger ability to meet their daily needs. Sonde Elodie, an orphan in the final year of her vocational training, said receiving a sewing machine had given her a genuine opportunity to build a career. Before receiving the support, she had worried about how she would establish herself and become self-reliant after graduation. She said the assistance would enable her to work, gain experience and save enough to open her own workshop before returning to her village to live near her family. Success Stories Sarah Sorgo, another beneficiary, said she now runs her own tailoring business and trains two apprentices. The project has given her financial independence, enabling her to contribute to household expenses and improve her family’s living conditions. She said the equipment had changed the course of her life by opening the door to productive and dignified work. Fellow beneficiary Hélène Ouédraogo said the sewing machine had enabled her to earn an income, support her family and help meet their needs. She expressed her gratitude to the donors and supporters who made the project possible. Promoting Professional Inclusion Bernadette Sou Bar, an official at a center affiliated with the Ministry of Family and Solidarity, praised Qatar Charity’s support for women and girls. She said providing graduates with sewing machines and equipment was a vital step in turning vocational training into tangible opportunities for employment and production. Many young women, she noted, had struggled to enter the workforce after graduation because they lacked the necessary equipment. Qatar Charity’s support, she added, was therefore helping to advance their professional and economic inclusion.

Qatar Charity Inaugurates Development Projects to Support Communities in Kyrgyzstan
Qatar Charity (QC) has opened two new development projects in Kegeti village in Chuy District, Chuy Region, Kyrgyzstan​‌, in the presence of government officials and representatives of local authorities. The projects include a health center covering a total area of 175 square meters and an 80-square-meter mosque. They form part of Qatar Charity’s ongoing efforts to support vital sectors and improve access to essential services for communities in need. Improving Access to Healthcare The new health center is expected to strengthen local healthcare services and benefit approximately 10,000 people living in Kegeti and nearby communities. It will provide primary healthcare, medical consultations, and other essential health services, helping residents access treatment and basic medical care closer to home. Supporting Community Life The mosque will provide the residents with a suitable place for worship while promoting Islamic values, community solidarity, and stronger social ties. Together, the health center and mosque provide an integrated model that addresses both the practical and spiritual needs of the local community. Local officials and residents expressed their sincere appreciation to the State of Qatar, Qatar Charity, and the generous donor for supporting the two projects. They noted that the new facilities would help improve quality of life and meet the community’s healthcare and religious needs. Continued Development Efforts The opening builds on Qatar Charity’s continuing humanitarian and development work in Kyrgyzstan. In 2025, its humanitarian and development projects reached more than 150,000 people across seven regions, with a particular focus on Chuy, Issyk-Kul, and Naryn. These efforts included 37 construction and development projects covering healthcare, education, water, housing, and mosques, as well as 53 economic empowerment and humanitarian relief projects.

Qatar Charity Launches Humanitarian Bridge from Qatar to Sudan
Qatar Charity (QC) has launched a humanitarian bridge from the State of Qatar to the Republic of Sudan, in partnership with Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Aspetar, a specialized orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital. The initiative comprises 50 trucks carrying essential medicines and medical supplies as part of an urgent response to the growing health needs caused by the continuing conflict in Sudan. Launch Ceremony The launch ceremony was held on Wednesday, 7 October, at the headquarters of Gulf Warehousing Company (GWC)’s facility at the Logistics Villagein the presence of representatives of Qatar Charity and the organizations supporting the initiative. The humanitarian bridge reflects the coordinated efforts of Qatari institutions to support the Sudanese people and strengthen the country’s health sector amid one of the world’s most severe humanitarian and health emergencies. The launch of the humanitarian bridge was attended by His Excellency Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sada, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of the Sudan, and His Excellency Badr Al Din Abdullah, Ambassador of the Republic of the Sudan to the State of Qatar, as well as Mr. Yousuf bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Charity; Ms. Aisha Saad Al-Jassim, Acting Head of Disaster and Emergency Relief Section at Qatar Fund for Development. Aspetar was represented by Mr. Khalid Abdulrahman Al Naama, Director of Marketing and Communication. Representatives of HMC included Mr. Saad Rashid Al Kubaisi, Assistant Executive Director of Supply and Procurement; Mr. Alexander Guthrie, Assistant Executive Director of Warehousing and Distribution; and Tarek Mohamed Khairy, Quality Manager at the Distribution Centre. GWC was represented by Mr. Nawaf Al Emadi, Chief Executive Officer of Government Relations, along with several other company officials. Responding to Urgent Health Needs The humanitarian bridge aims to deliver essential medicines and medical supplies and strengthen the capacity of health providers in Sudan to meet rapidly growing needs. The country continues to face severe shortages of essential supplies, while many health facilities are unable to provide basic services. The medicines and medical supplies were provided by QFFD, HMC and Aspetar, while Qatar Charity is coordinating the operational and logistical arrangements for their transportation to Sudan. A Deepening Health Crisis The launch of the humanitarian bridge comes as Sudan faces extremely difficult humanitarian and health conditions. World Health Organization estimates indicate that more than 20 million people require health assistance, 21 million face severe food shortages, and approximately 33.7 million people are expected to need humanitarian assistance this year. Sudan’s health system has been severely weakened by the continuing conflict, attacks on healthcare facilities, mass displacement, and shortages of medicines, medical supplies and health workers. More than one-third of health facilities in the country remain non-functional, leaving millions of people without access to essential and life-saving care. Coordinated Qatari Support The humanitarian bridge demonstrates the importance of cooperation among Qatari institutions in responding to major humanitarian emergencies. By bringing together medical resources, operational expertise and logistical capabilities, the initiative seeks to maximize the impact of humanitarian assistance and address the urgent health needs of the Sudanese people. It also reaffirms the commitment of Qatar Charity and its partners to supporting people affected by the crisis and helping Sudan’s health sector continue providing essential services despite the immense challenges it faces. The initiative builds on Qatar Charity’s health and humanitarian program in Sudan for 2026, which aims to support medical services, strengthen the healthcare system and expand access to treatment for the most vulnerable. During this year, Qatar Charity implemented a series of specialized health initiatives, including cardiac medical camps, surgical operations and cardiac catheterization procedures, as well as cochlear implant and cataract treatment programs. Valued at more than QAR 1.3 million, these interventions provided patients with specialized medical care and strengthened the health sector’s capacity to respond to growing needs across the targeted areas. The total value of Qatar Charity’s humanitarian projects and interventions in Sudan in 2026 has reached approximately QAR 17 million to date. This figure does not include the assistance being delivered through the newly launched humanitarian bridge.

Qatar Charity and Zanzibar Government Sign MoU to Support Persons with Disabilities
Qatar Charity, through its Tanzania Branch, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the First Vice President’s Office of Zanzibar to strengthen cooperation in implementing humanitarian and development initiatives for persons with disabilities. The partnership aims to empower them, promote their social and economic inclusion, and improve their quality of life. The MoU was signed by Mr. Syed Shujaat Ali Shah, Acting Country Director of Qatar Charity in Tanzania, and Ms. Maryam Juma Abdulla, Permanent Secretary at the First Vice President’s Office of Zanzibar. Social Inclusion The MoU establishes a framework for developing and implementing programs and projects in humanitarian assistance, social welfare, livelihoods, economic empowerment, accessibility, capacity building, and community awareness. It also promotes knowledge-sharing and institutional cooperation to advance the social and economic inclusion of persons with disabilities. The agreement reflects both parties’ commitment to creating sustainable opportunities, improving access to services for persons with disabilities, and contributing to Zanzibar’s development goals. It also lays the foundation for future joint initiatives and projects that will deliver a positive and lasting impact for vulnerable groups and local communities across the islands. Strengthening Cooperation Ms. Maryam Juma Abdulla commended Qatar Charity’s humanitarian and development contributions in Zanzibar, particularly its sponsorship of more than 400 orphans and its support for local communities in social welfare, education, economic empowerment, and access to safe drinking water. She noted that the MoU would further strengthen cooperation between the Government of Zanzibar and Qatar Charity in serving vulnerable groups and supporting initiatives aimed at advancing social development. Expanding Interventions For his part, Mr. Syed Shujaat Ali Shah expressed his appreciation to the Government of Zanzibar for its continued support and facilitation of humanitarian and development projects, including the recent eye care campaign and the distribution of in-kind assistance. He reaffirmed Qatar Charity’s commitment to expanding its interventions in health, education, social welfare, economic empowerment, and access to safe drinking water. He added that the strengthened partnership would enhance joint efforts and help improve the lives of vulnerable individuals and families across Zanzibar. Ibsar Initiative It is worth noting that, under its “Ibsar” Initiative, Qatar Charity implemented a specialized eye care and surgery campaign in Zanzibar from 29 August to 4 September 2026. The campaign benefited 3,879 people, distributed more than 415 prescription eyeglasses, and performed 404 cataract surgeries.
