Niger Honors QC for Its Humani

The Chief of Corie Municipality in Niger honored QC for the efforts the latter exerts in developing the region. QC has been doing so from 2008- 2015. The honoring event took place in Corie, 70 km from Niamey; a number of senior figures attended. Mr. Amiro Hamed, County Chief; Mr. Hamadu Salivo, the Mayor; Mr. Hima Amadu, Mayor Deputy; and Mr. Hassan Eissa, Secretary General; attended the honoring event in addition to many directors and village chiefs of the region. The Municipality Council announced that the intervention expenses QC paid for the region were approximately 3,463,413 QR; making QC the best organization that has greatly contributed to the development and rehabilitation of Corie. QC was able to help the inhabitants level up their living standards through depending on income-generating projects. QC chose Corie for its intervention projects because of its agricultural nature; the people of Corie depend on farming and raising cattle. Therefore, it makes a suitable environment, for it has good lands, water and people willing to work. As part of the benevolent loans program, multiple projects were implemented. They included supplying the grain banks with 606 tons of grains, distributing 3,749 sheep and 580 cows, offering sewing machines, and supporting 72 small business projects. QC also distributed seeds, manure and forage. In addition, these developmental projects included establishment projects such as the establishment of a health center in Babussai village, the drilling of 6 artisan aquifers with manual pumps, the drilling of 2 artisan aquifers with a tank and networks functioning on solar energy, the establishment of 5 mosques and a Quran memorization center.   Food Security QC first implemented Food Security program in Niger in the beginning of 2007. Since then, this project has been in effect. It was first inaugurated because of the food crises Niger suffered from due to drought. Around 800,000 people benefited from this program. It focused mainly on income-generating projects related to agriculture and ranching; and on cooperatives. This huge awareness program came as a response to Donors Forum which was held in January 2007 in Doha.  They pleaded for the support of Niger to help it overcome its food crises which continuously threaten its people. Furthermore, this program was initiated around the same time QC opened its office there. This project, that was implemented 8 years ago, is considered one of the most distinguished, strategic projects that contributed to the fight against poverty and that helped in providing food security.   Water Projects In 2015, QC was able to drill 70 wells in Niger through which it provided drinking water to 35,750 families and the cattle they own at a cost of around 2,500,000 QR. Niger's weather is generally dry; and water-related problems were the greatest issues the people of Niger suffered from. 50 % of the inhabitants did not receive clean drinking water. Therefore, water projects in Niger are considered a priority to the humanitarian organizations, including QC.    Sponsorships 248,160,000 QR were donated for the sponsorship of orphans in 2015. QC Establishes a Desalination

As QC continues to implement water projects in countries where the people suffer from shortages in and scarcity of water, it established a desalination plant in Bangladesh for the benefit of more than 20,000 people. "Paigasa Desalination Plant" produces around 80,000 liters of water for drinking and home use. Not less than 20,000 people benefit from this project which cost 20,000 QR. Water Projects Engineer Khalid Al Yaf'i, Director of Operations Management at QC's Executive Management, said, "The water plants QC implements in countries that suffer from shortages in and lack of water are vitally important since they help save the lives of people, animals and plants. Through such projects, QC aims at contributing to lessening the negative impacts of drought and use of polluted water which helps enhance the public health, mainly for children and women, since the use of polluted water helps increase the diseases that spread". Five Excavators Engineer Khalid also mentioned how QC owns a number of excavators that are used for drilling deep artesian wells in Sudan, Burkina Faso and Niger. "QC has recently signed a cooperation agreement with the German company 'Buhak' so to improve the technologies used in extracting water in Africa. QC implemented a manufacturing and importing two excavators project for Somalia and Mauritania at a cost of 3,378,612 QR," he added. Dr. Mohammed Amine Hafith, Director of QC's office in Bangladesh, said, "Although in the south west of Bangladesh there are plenty amounts of water, the water is extremely salty. As a result, the people of these areas find it difficult to have drinking water and water for home use". Artesian Wells He also said that QC has already tried to fix the situation and took the drilling of thousands of deep artesian wells as a first step. Those wells were more than 300 meters deep in the ground. "That was not enough, however, for responding to all demands. Some areas lacked drinking water even after digging thousands of meters in the ground. After a careful study, QC was able to find other alternatives to meet the needs of these areas. It ad two options: either to bring water from tens of kilometers away through pipes, or to establish water desalination plants. It was agreed that QC would establish the plants because the other option was very expensive and required long time to reach the lands". Previous Efforts QC has already drilled more than 7,000 artesian wells in Bangladesh at a cost of more than 20,000,000 QR. Around 1,000,000 people benefit from those wells. In addition, QC implemented 12 projects for irrigation and drinking water at a cost of around 2,000,000 QR. These projects were implemented for the people living in dry areas in the north west of Bangladesh. From October and until April, these areas suffer from drought and lack irrigation and drinking water exposing the people of these areas to thirst and stopping them from farming their lands. As a result, the people's sufferings and needs increase. In order to overcome such problems, QC drilled the wells, supplied them with networks and provided the necessary equipment for water connection with their lands and for the irrigation of their farms and for their drinking purposes as well. QC Significantly Contributes t

The Qatar Charity Office in Khartoum has implemented a large number of water projects in many places of Sudan to put an end to the water problems in the country. The implemented water projects, which include establishing water plants, drilling artesian and surface wells, and providing a drilling unit to dig deep wells, benefited hundreds of thousands of people. Director of the QC’s Office in Sudan Hussein Kermas said “by providing safe drinking water, Qatar Charity aims to improve the public health of poor communities and to control diseases, which spread through the use of contaminated water". Providing safe drinking water is one of the most significant areas of the QC’s work in order to help poor and needy people with safe potable water free of contaminants and diseases that harm both human and animal health, Kermas added. 4 Nile Water Purification Plants In cooperation and partnership with Munazzamat Al-Da’wa Al-Islamiyya and the Qatar Red Crescent, Qatar Charity set up 4 water purification plants in many villages scattered along the Nile River, at cost of QR 7.5 million, to cover the needs of more than 87,000 people for Clean Drinking Water. These water purification plants have production capacity ranging from 500 to 2,800 cubic meters per day as well as they are equipped with tanks, service and administrative facilities, and laboratories for water analysis. Water Plants Under Construction A water plant project is currently being implemented in Wad Hamid, in the Nile River State at a cost of QR 2 million, which will have production capacity of 1,800 cubic meter per day, and will benefit 25,000 people approximately. There is also a plan to set up 20 water plants with different capacities in six other states, at an estimated cost of about $ 12 million. A Project in the Darfur region As part of its partnership with the Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD), Qatar Charity has also started the implementation of other water projects in South and Central Darfur at a cost of about QR 11 million under the framework of Qatar’s Darfur Development Initiative and they are expected to be completed by the end of April 2018 and will provide clean water sources to a number of localities in the region. The projects include drilling 255 wells equipped with hand pumps, setting up 3 large water plants with overhead water tanks having a capacity of 50 cubic meters and equipped with an energy source (generator / solar energy), and establishing 11 medium water plants with 30 m3 overhead water tanks equipped with energy sources in addition to the distribution of maintenance kits for hand pumps, and the formation of wells and water plants management committees. Well Drilling Unit In 2013, Qatar Charity brought a drilling unit from Germany to dig deep wells in multi-layered geological areas of Sudan to reduce the cost and managed to dig100 wells in several areas of North Kordofan, South Darfur and Gedaref. Water Harvesting Since its opening in 1994, Qatar Charity implemented a large number of Water Projects so far, which include more than 500 surface and artesian well and more than 650 water coolers to benefit more than 302,000 people.

QC’s 2017 water projects reach

As many as 7,000 families benefited from the Water Projects of Qatar Charity in the remote areas of the Gaza Strip, Palestine, which were implemented last year, aiming at providing them with clean water, improving their health conditions, and easing their economic burden. The Director of the QC’s office in the Gaza Strip, Mohamed Abu Haloub said the QC’s intervention came due to the poor economic condition of the people here, which resulted in the water crisis in the region. He added that Qatar Charity provided drinking water to beneficiary families by supplying thousands of cubic meters of water, pointing out the charity has recently drilled of a well in a remote area of the Gaza Strip at a cost of QR 23,785, which is a permanent source of water to the "Umm Ahmed" Musalla on the outskirts of Khan Younis. For the first time, a large number of Palestinians became able to Get Drinking Water in the remote areas of the Gaza Strip due to the QC’s water project implemented in the region, which made a clear difference in the lives of thousands of beneficiaries.  Many families, including Ahmed Majid Hammad’s family, in the remote areas of the Gaza Strip used to purchase and bring water from places very far away from their homes. Hammad used to get water from a distance of more than 2 km away from his house, but now, he easily gets drinking water in his remote place on the outskirts of Khan Younis due to the QC’s water project. Beneficiary families thanked Qatar Charity, all the donors, and field staff for their humanitarian efforts and contributions to alleviate their suffering due to not having main water networks in their areas. The QC’s office in the Gaza Strip has managed to implement 1798 projects in 2016 and 2017 in various humanitarian, social and developmental sectors, benefiting more than 3.5 million people.
