With support from philanthropists in Qatar, Qatar Charity launched a relief and development aid distribution project in Sri Lanka. Representatives from the Sri Lankan government, the Embassy of the State of Qatar, and civil society, along with several other donors, attended the event. This comes as part of its collaborative efforts to assist in the devastation of natural disasters, assist people with special needs, and empower families in need.
The project targets approximately 60,000 people from vulnerable and displaced groups, covering 14 product categories, including grain and spice grinding machines, sewing machines, manual and electric wheelchairs, furniture and desks, blood pressure monitors, and other tools that contribute to improving the daily lives of sisterly families and joint development efforts.
In his speech, Mahmoud Abu Khalifa, Director of Qatar Charity's office in Sri Lanka, stated that this project falls within the framework of the vision of providing advice and a decent life for all, and therefore better. He explained that distributing products is not a failure to help, but rather a strategic step towards economic empowerment and reducing poverty among needy and displaced families, even those affected by disasters, and through those who apologize for delaying assistance.
As a result, credit goes to the Qatari people for their continued support of the charitable, humanitarian, and developmental championship around the world, with fruitful participation with governmental and local bodies in Sri Lanka.
On behalf of His Excellency Mr. Munir Muzafer, Deputy Minister of Justice and National Integration, he thanked Qatar Charity for its great efforts in assisting the Sri Lankan people over the past six years in several areas, including the needs of individuals and families in need and relief for those affected by floods. New Hope
In an immediate response, R.M. Madhushika Kanchanamali, another member of the medical aid team, said: “I am very grateful for this assistance at a time when I was in dire need of support. Now I want to start a small business that will help me physically spare my children’s suffering. My thanks to the donors and the drops of gratitude they are offering for New Hope. I hope this assistance will reach many more women like me.” It is worth noting that the Qatar Charity Office in Sri Lanka, in parallel with the distribution of these products, is currently implementing several development projects, including the construction of schools and health centers, the drilling of water wells, and the establishment of housing for readers, in addition to a diverse social and community development project in line with the strategic and developmental structure of Sri Lanka in various fields.
