Qatar Charity develops relief plan to support flood-victims in Pakistan

8/21/2025

As devastating monsoon floods continue to wreak havoc across Pakistan, Qatar Charity is actively planning its emergency response to deliver urgent humanitarian aid to affected communities in the hardest-hit regions.

Under its planned relief interventions, Qatar Charity aims to support vulnerable households with dry food supplies, essential non-food items, and temporary shelter through tents. These efforts are designed to help families cope with the immediate challenges of displacement, food insecurity, and the loss of basic household necessities.

The 2025 monsoon season has brought unprecedented destruction to Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Punjab, Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir, and Sindh. Since June 26, continuous heavy rainfall has triggered flash floods, landslides, and widespread devastation, leaving thousands in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.

To date, the floods have claimed 707 lives and injured 967 individuals. A total of 1,926 homes have been damaged—1,012 completely destroyed—while 1,108 livestock deaths have further strained livelihoods. Rescue teams have evacuated nearly 18,000 people, and 482 relief camps and 31 medical camps are currently supporting over 29,311 displaced persons.

In response to the crisis, the Relief, Rehabilitation & Settlement Department of KP has declared a state of emergency in several districts until August 31, 2025, to facilitate swift relief operations.

Regarding Qatar Charity’s interventions, the field office in Pakistan continues to coordinate its efforts with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and local authorities to ensure that the humanitarian response aligns with national plans. The office affirms its full readiness to respond immediately in the event of an official emergency call, as the alert level has been raised and emergency teams have been activated to deliver timely relief assistance, ensuring rapid access to affected families and meeting their essential needs.

Qatar Charity’s commitment to humanitarian aid was notably demonstrated during the 2022 floods, when it partnered with Qatar Aid, Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), and other donors to assist over 500,000 affected individuals—including Afghan refugees—across 18 districts. That response included the distribution of 39,140 food packages, 6,690 tents, and 5,000 hygiene kits.
