Qatar Charity (QC) has carried out a series of economic empowerment and food security projects in Tanzania, reaching more than 8,500 vulnerable individuals. The mission was led by a high-level delegation that included Sheikh Dr. Ali Al-Qaradaghi, President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, and Mr. Abdulaziz Jassim Hejji, Director of Development Operations at Qatar Charity.
The initiative involved the distribution of food packages, vocational tools, and production equipment, aiming to address both urgent needs and long-term livelihoods.
Livelihood Stability
These efforts are part of Qatar Charity’s broader humanitarian and development strategy across Africa. By combining immediate relief with sustainable development, Qatar seeks to create self-reliant communities resilient to economic shocks.
Commenting during the event, Sheikh Al-Qaradaghi stated, "Islamic values call upon us to stand with those in need during times of hardship. This support is not limited to emergency aid but extends to empowering families with the tools and opportunities to become active contributors in their communities."
Meetings
During his visit, Mr. Abdulaziz Jassim Hejji, Director of Development Operations at Qatar Charity, met with H.E. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar, to explore avenues of cooperation. The two parties agreed to strengthen coordination in implementing development projects across various sectors in Zanzibar. President Mwinyi expressed his full support and warm welcome for Qatar Charity’s initiatives aimed at improving community well-being across the archipelago.
One of the key outcomes of the discussions was the proposal for an urban center project that would include residential units and service facilities to uplift marginalized populations. Qatar Charity’s Tanzania office is currently preparing a project proposal. This collaboration follows an earlier visit by President Mwinyi to Qatar Charity's headquarters in Doha, reinforcing a shared commitment to long-term partnership.
For his part, Sheikh Al-Qaradaghi held a meeting with Dr. Abubakar Zubeir bin Ali, the Grand Mufti and Chairman of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs in Tanzania, where they discussed collaboration in community development and the integration of Islamic values in humanitarian work. Additionally, he met with Mr. Fahad Rashid Al Marekhi, mbassador of the State of Qatar to Tanzania. The meeting focused on the current humanitarian needs in the country and explored ways to expand relief and development programs to reach more vulnerable groups.
Qatar Charity’s delegation participated directly in aid distribution activities and conducted a field visit to the Sheikh Abdullah Al-Dabbagh Orphan Center. They also held discussions with religious and diplomatic leaders to strengthen the link between humanitarian relief and sustainable development. These engagements provided an opportunity to interact with beneficiaries, assess the social impact of the projects, and listen to their aspirations.
