Qatar Charity marks World Patient Safety Day with 2 million lives saved

On World Patient Safety Day, observed annually on 17 September, Qatar Charity (QC) reaffirmed its commitment to collaborative efforts aimed at preventing avoidable harm in patient care—particularly for children—and building a safer, healthier future. This aligns with Qatar Charity’s humanitarian mission to promote public health and uphold human dignity, as well as with global efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being).

Qatar Charity has successfully implemented 12 impactful health initiatives over the past five years—from May 2021 to 2025—benefiting vulnerable populations, especially children and patients in crisis-affected communities. These efforts have reached more than 2.1 million beneficiaries across 23 countries, with a total cost of approximately QAR 129 million. These initiatives reflected the organization’s dedication to creating sustainable change in people’s lives. Below are Qatar Charity’s health initiatives implemented over the past five years:

‘Alquloob Alrahimah’ (Compassionate Hearts)

This initiative is aimed at reducing mortality and disability caused by congenital heart defects in children. Implemented in 9 countries including Ghana, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Somalia, it benefited 800 children.

Ibsar (Eyesight)

This initiative is focused on treating cataract-related vision impairment, especially among children and the elderly. Implemented in 14 countries such as Yemen, Jordan, Tanzania, and Burkina Faso, it reached 18,516 patients.

Sinaeat Alibtisamah (Making a Smile)

This initiative conducted corrective surgeries for children with cleft lip and palate, benefiting 836 children in many countries including Jordan, Pakistan, Somalia, and Ghana.

Man Ahyaha (Whoever Saves a Life)

This initiative targeted children under five suffering from acute malnutrition, particularly in crisis zones, benefiting thousands of children in countries like Yemen, Somalia, and Ghana.

Non-Communicable Disease Treatment

This initiative is aimed at reducing complications from chronic illnesses like diabetes and hypertension. Implemented in 6 countries including Senegal, Jordan, and Tanzania, it benefited 10,200 patients.

Big Hearts

It has offered diagnostic and therapeutic catheterization services for heart patients, especially the elderly in Yemen, Syria, and Bangladesh, helping 183 patients.

Kidney Failure Support

This initiative focuses on equipping dialysis centers with modern devices and training medical staff. Implemented in Yemen, Pakistan, India, Morocco, and Jordan, it served 5,050 patients monthly.

I Hear You

It has provided hearing aids to children with hearing loss in Syria, Tanzania, and Kyrgyzstan, benefiting 611 children.

Planting Hope

This initiative has enabled kidney transplants for patients in need, helping 60 patients in Yemen.

Health Facility Construction

This initiative has built and equipped hospitals and health centers in 15 developing countries including Sudan, Tunisia, Somalia, and Mali, serving 2,044,774 people.

Prosthetic Limbs

This initiative supplied free prosthetic limbs to individuals who lost limbs due to war or accidents. benefiting 992 people in Pakistan, Yemen, Jordan, and Syria.

Cancer Patient Treatment

This initiative has provided diagnostic services, chemotherapy, surgical treatment, and psychosocial support for cancer patients. It served 560 individuals in Yemen, Jordan, and Mauritania.
