Qatar Charity extends lifesaving assistance to 35,400 flood-affected individuals in Pakistan

Qatar Charity (QC), in collaboration with donors from Qatar, has implemented a series of lifesaving humanitarian interventions in Pakistan, reaching nearly 35,400 individuals affected by recent floods, which displaced over 12,500 families and impacted more than one million people across the country.

As part of its relief efforts, Qatar Charity distributed 2,200 food packages in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab provinces, benefitting more than 15,400 people. Each package was designed to meet the nutritional needs of a family for one month, particularly children. It included rice, flour, cooking oil, beans, sugar, dates, tea, salt, and energy biscuits.

In partnership with ِAl hifa Trust Eye Hospital, Qatar Charity organized a four-day free medical camp in the Jhang and Muzaffargarh districts, delivering essential health services to over 16,500 flood-affected individuals. The camp offered cataract surgeries, medical consultations, eye screenings, laboratory tests, and free medicines, along with the distribution of eyeglasses—ensuring comprehensive care for vulnerable communities.

Additionally, in collaboration with UNICEF, Qatar Charity distributed 500 hygiene kits to support approximately 3,500 people, helping families maintain cleanliness and reduce the risk of disease in flood-affected areas.

Local authorities praised the relief efforts. Mr. Muhammad Farrukh Mehmood Janjua, Assistant Commissioner of Jhang, and Mr. Muhammad Shahbaz Khan, Deputy Director of the Social Welfare Department, expressed their gratitude to Qatar Charity for its timely and impactful support to vulnerable groups, including women, elders, widows, and low-income households.

Flood-affected families shared their words of gratitude, reflecting on the life-changing impact of the assistance

Mrs. Shahnaz Bibi, 38, whose home and livestock were destroyed, said: “With floodwater everywhere, we had no access to roads or food. My children were crying in hunger. Qatar Charity’s team delivered a food package to my doorstep. This is truly a blessing from Allah.”

Mrs. Sobia Bibi, 48, from Muzaffargarh, who received free cataract surgery at the medical camp, shared: “For two years, I could not afford treatment. Due to the floods, we lost everything. Today, I can see clearly again, thanks to the medical camp. Allah has sent doctors as angels to us.”

Background

Qatar Charity’s commitment to humanitarian aid was notably demonstrated during the 2022 floods, when it partnered with Qatar Aid, Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), and others to assist over 500,000 affected individuals—including Afghan refugees—across 18 districts. That response included the distribution of 39,140 food packages, 6,690 tents, and 5,000 hygiene kits.
