With the generous support of philanthropists in Qatar, Qatar Charity (QC) has launched a major initiative to restore and rebuild five mosques in rural Damascus, aiming to provide local communities with safe and comfortable spaces for religious practices.

The project, implemented in collaboration with Wifak Humanitarian Association, includes the reconstruction and finishing of Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Mosque in Douma and the restoration of the historic Umayyad Mosque in Ghouta, as well as the renovation and finishing of Arbin Grand Mosque, Al-Omari Mosque in Harasta, and Hudhayfah Ibn Al-Yaman Mosque in Hamouriya.

With a total cost exceeding QAR 7.5 million, the project is expected to take ten months to complete. The initiative is anticipated to strengthen social stability in the targeted areas and represents another step in Qatar Charity’s broader efforts in reconstruction and community development across Syria.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Karam Aly, Country Director of Qatar Charity’s Turkey Branch, said: “This project reflects Qatar Charity’s commitment to supporting the resilience of our people in Syria and preserving the spiritual and architectural identity of the community. Mosques are not just places of worship—they are hubs of social connection and brotherhood. Their reconstruction sends a message of hope for the return of normal life to towns and cities that have suffered for so long."

Meanwhile, Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bashash, Director of Public Relations at the Directorate of Endowments in Rural Damascus, expressed deep gratitude to Qatari donors and Qatar Charity for their efforts in launching this vital project. He stressed the urgent need for continued support to restore partially damaged mosques and rebuild those completely destroyed during years of crisis.
