Qatar Charity (QC), with support from Qatari donors, has laid the foundation stone for the Al-Rayyan Model Village at Mohamed Mooge camp, south of Hargeisa, in Somaliland. The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, and the project is expected to be completed within 18 months.
The village will comprise 41 housing units for displaced families, a primary and secondary school, a health center, a vocational training institute, a Quran memorization center, and a grand mosque. The initiative aims to transform informal settlements into safe, organized communities, ensuring dignified living conditions and long-term stability for internally displaced persons (IDPs).
Mr. Abdulfatah Adam, Country Director of Qatar Charity’s Somalia Branch, said the project goes beyond housing. “It includes a fully equipped technical institute to empower youth with skills for effective integration into the local job market, fostering economic independence,” he noted. The initiative aligns with Qatar Charity’s broader strategy to strengthen family stability and improve essential services.
Earlier this year, Qatar Charity inaugurated the Barwaqo Model Village in Baidoa, southwest Somalia. The village includes 67 housing units, a secondary school, a health center, a mosque, and vocational training facilities—setting a benchmark for improving lives and securing a better future for displaced communities.
