Qatar Charity (QC), with the support of benevolent donors, has launched its “Furqan” program in Nouakchott, Mauritania, to teach the Holy Qur’an with precision and mastery to a group of sponsored orphan students.

At the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Souleimane Cheikh Hamdi, Acting Director of Programs and Projects at Qatar Charity’s Mauritania office, noted that
this program reflects Qatar Charity’s commitment to holistic care for its sponsored children, encompassing moral development and knowledge enhancement.

Dr. Hamdi explained that 60 students—equally divided between boys and girls across Nouakchott’s three regions—will benefit from this year-long initiative, which seeks to improve participants’ proficiency in memorizing and reciting the Holy Qur’an.

Mrs. Nanana Mohamed Assisah, mother of one of the orphaned girls, thanked Qatar Charity for this and other projects that support orphans and vulnerable families. Representing the beneficiaries, student Zawiya bint Mohamed highlighted the program’s significance in shaping and empowering participants.

Launched last year, the “Furqan” program is an educational and cultural initiative featuring diverse activities to help sponsored orphans develop knowledge and strengthen moral values. It continues to be implemented in several countries and includes projects that promote effective Qur’anic learning.

Qatar Charity currently sponsors around 226,500 individuals through its flagship “Rofaqa” program, which provides comprehensive care, improves living conditions, and enhances skills for vulnerable groups—including orphans, needy families, persons with special needs, and students—ultimately working to improve their quality of life.
