Qatar Charity supports 6,856 people through livelihood and relief projects in Ethiopia

Qatar Charity (QC) has successfully implemented a series of humanitarian and development initiatives in Ethiopia over the past four months, benefiting 6,856 individuals from 1,186 families, including mothers of sponsored orphans, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and earthquake-affected communities. These efforts aim to promote sustainable livelihoods, reduce poverty, and respond to urgent humanitarian needs.

In a major step toward economic empowerment, Qatar Charity, in collaboration with the Charity and Development Association (CDA), organized a handover ceremony in Addis Ababa to deliver keys to newly established shops and three-wheeled vehicles to beneficiaries. The event was attended by senior government officials from Gulele Sub-City, Addis Ketema Sub-City, Burayu City, and the Head of the Oromia Finance Bureau, underscoring strong partnerships between development actors and local authorities.

Through this initiative, 106 families (530 individuals) of orphaned children received income-generating assets, including grocery shops, coffee shops, restaurants, mobile phone repair shops, tailoring shops, and three-wheeled vehicles. These resources will enable beneficiaries to launch small businesses, improve household income, and contribute to local economic growth. The project seeks to create decent work opportunities, reduce unemployment, and curb irregular migration.

To address the urgent needs of displaced communities, Qatar Charity provided food basket assistance to 612 families (3,288 individuals) in Jimma City, Oromia Region. The aid was distributed in three rounds, covering food requirements for three months and helping families cope with the challenges of displacement.

Following the devastating earthquakes in October and November, Qatar Charity extended humanitarian aid to affected families in Afar Region. A total of 468 food baskets were distributed across four districts—Berahle, Lela Ala, Bure, and Da’ar—ensuring the monthly food needs of 3,038 individuals (468 households).

Beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude for this timely intervention, which brought hope and relief during a critical period.
