Qatar Charity, in collaboration with Msheireb Museums, inaugurated the “241” exhibition at the Courtyard of Company House in Msheireb Downtown Doha. The exhibition commemorates 241 children from Gaza—sponsored by the generous people of Qatar through Qatar Charity’s “Rofaqa” initiative—who were martyred in the recent war.
The exhibition brings the stories of these children to life through 241 illuminated light boxes, each featuring a photograph of a child. The outdoor installation combines these light boxes with designs, videos, and curated materials, highlighting what each child aspired to before the chance at life was taken from them. This exhibition offers visitors a space for human connection with these painful stories.
On this occasion, Mr. Ahmed Fakhroo, Executive Director of Communication and Community Impact at Qatar Charity, said: “The lives of these children represent an immense human loss, yet their stories carry an enduring message about the importance of protecting and supporting vulnerable communities. Through this exhibition, part of our ongoing “Rofaqa” initiative, we ensure that these children’s memories and dreams are preserved and shared with the wider community.”
For his part, Mr. Abdulla Al Naama, General Manager of Msheireb Museums, said: “Hosting this exhibition reflects Msheireb Museums’ cultural and humanitarian responsibility. Museums are not only about documenting the past; they also engage with the present, witness its events, and serve as platforms for human memory—especially on issues that touch human conscience. This exhibition, in collaboration with Qatar Charity, is a message that reminds us all of children who lost their lives and dreams, and tells a part of a story that must be told.”
The opening ceremony paid heartfelt tribute to each child, honoring their lives and the dreams they were never able to fulfil. One by one, all 241 children’s names were read aloud with solemnity, and as each name was spoken, the corresponding photograph on the dedicated light box and central screen shifted from black and white to full color, symbolizing the restoration of their identity, presence, and spirit. Visitors were invited to witness the unfolding change, experiencing a reflection that each child was an individual with hopes, aspirations, and a story worth remembering. The ceremony concluded with a full-color collage of all the children, creating a striking and poignant visual that captured the collective memory of the 241 young lives, leaving a lasting appreciation of their value and the human cost of conflict.
Beyond the central light box installation, the exhibition integrates advanced designs, video elements, and curated archival materials to showcase the unfinished dreams and personal narratives of the children. This multi-sensory approach invites visitors to engage with the exhibition on a personal level, creating a connection that is both emotional and contemplative.
The “241” exhibition will run until 18 December and is open daily from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
