Qatar Charity, with the support of generous donors in Qatar, has opened a health clinic in the city of Abduwaq in the Galgaduud region of Somalia. This initiative is part of its efforts to enhance basic healthcare services for the region's residents and alleviate their suffering resulting from the lack of healthcare facilities.
Clinic Facilities
The clinic occupies an area of 1,120 square meters and includes various facilities such as an emergency department, specialized clinics for pediatrics and obstetrics and gynecology, laboratory tests, vaccinations, and health education and awareness programs. It is expected that approximately 100,000 people will benefit from the clinic annually.
The opening ceremony was attended by several local leaders and civil society figures. Mr. Abdul Hakim Mohamed Diriye, Director of Planning at the Ministry of Health in Galmudug State, stated, "This project marks the end of the suffering of the people of Abduwaq. It addresses the needs of the local community and is now fully ready to serve the residents of the area."
Serving 4 Areas
For his part, Muhyiddin Adam Wali, Mayor of Abduwaq, expressed his deep gratitude to Qatar Charity and the Ministry of Health for fulfilling the needs of the region. He explained that the new clinic will serve more than four areas suffering from a lack of health centers, thus alleviating the burden of travel for residents seeking treatment. He expressed the gratitude of the people of Abduwaq to the State of Qatar, its leadership and people, and to all the donors who contributed to funding this humanitarian project.
Tahir Mohamed Haji, Programs Director at Qatar Charity's Somalia office, confirmed that the clinic is part of a series of humanitarian projects aimed at alleviating the suffering of the population and improving the level of medical services. He added that the center contains twenty rooms equipped with all modern medical equipment.
Extended Giving
It is worth noting that Qatar Charity’s office in Somalia began work on establishing this health clinic in January of this year, 2025. This project comes as a translation of the association’s commitment to supporting the health sector in Somalia. It is also worth noting that the office completed 16 projects in the fields of health and nutrition during the past year, at a total cost of 3.5 million Qatari riyals, and more than 58,000 people benefited from them.
