1/13/2026

In 2025, Qatar Charity (QC), with the generous support of donors, implemented nearly 300 humanitarian and development projects across Sri Lanka, benefiting over 90,000 vulnerable individuals.

The initiatives covered housing, WASH, education, health, food security, economic empowerment, orphan sponsorship, seasonal assistance, emergency relief, and the distribution of developmental items—reflecting Qatar Charity’s commitment to sustainable development and humanitarian response.

WASH

In the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sector, 227 projects benefited 9,960 people in drought-prone areas. The projects provided sustainable access to clean water through tube wells equipped with electric submersible pumps, 1,000-litre overhead tanks, and multiple tap points—significantly improving health and hygiene.

Education & Health

Qatar Charity has initiated three education projects expected to benefit 3,120 students. Major interventions included the construction of a multi-storey science laboratory building at Kalutara Muslim Central College and two modern school complexes at Fathima Ladies College and Al Hikma Vidyalam. School kits and bicycles were also distributed to support students’ access to education.

Seven health projects benefited 1,695 individuals, including the construction of a hospital ward complex, provision of hospital beds, and the completion of 150 cataract surgeries—helping restore vision and improve healthcare access for vulnerable patients. Qatar Charity also distributed 700 wheelchairs and 1,000 electronic blood pressure monitors to public hospitals.

Housing

Qatar Charity completed seven housing projects, benefiting 39 individuals from vulnerable families. The initiative included five houses of 45m² for families of at least five members and two houses of 60m² for larger families. Each home was built with essential living facilities, ensuring safety, dignity, and improved living conditions.

Economic Empowerment

Under food security and economic empowerment programs, 52 projects supported 60 families by providing sewing machines, grain grinders, livestock, and farming tools. These interventions enabled income generation, reduced hunger, and promoted self-reliance.

Orphan Sponsorship

Through its ‘Rofaqa’ initiative, Qatar Charity supported 1,250 orphans across nine districts, ensuring access to education, healthcare, food, and clothing while promoting emotional well-being and social integration.

Seasonal & Relief Projects

Seasonal projects implemented during Ramadan and Eid benefited 14,500 individuals. Assistance included food packages, Eid clothing for 250 orphans, and fresh meat distribution under the Adhahi Project.

In response to flooding, Qatar Charity supported 1,240 families in Mannar and 2,000 families in Kandy through the distribution of food baskets containing essential items sufficient for household needs for up to 20 days.

Relief & Developmental Items

The distribution of relief and developmental items benefited 60,000 individuals across eight districts. Support included the provision of sewing machines and grinding mills, contributing to poverty reduction and long-term economic empowerment.
