Qatar Charity (QC) has inaugurated its new office in Nouakchott and laid the foundation stone for the Sheikhah Aisha bint Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani Islamic Complex, during a recent visit by its delegation to Mauritania. The delegation also held high-level meetings to enhance development and social collaboration in the country.

The office inauguration was attended by Mr. Abdulaziz Jassim Hejji, Executive Director of International Operations at Qatar Charity, Mr. Mr. Ghanem Mansour Al-Naimi, Acting Chargé d’Affaires at the Qatari Embassy in Mauritania. Sheikh Saud bin Khalid bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani later acknowledged Qatar Charity’s role in advancing social and developmental efforts in Mauritania.

Qatar Charity also held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Sheikhah Aisha bint Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani Islamic Complex in Toujounine, attended by Sheikh Saud bin Khalid bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani, along with Qatari and Mauritanian officials, including the Acting Chargé d’Affaires at the Qatari Embassy and Beitallah Ahmed Lesoud, Secretary‑General of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Original Education.

The 1,800 m² complex will include a grand mosque, Quran memorization center, institute of Islamic studies, imam’s residence, and other facilities.

Hejji said the project reflects Qatar Charity’s motto of “Dignity for All,” noting that the complex will serve as an important learning hub for the Toujounine community. He added that this initiative, together with other development projects, reinforces Qatar Charity’s commitment to working in strategic partnership with the Mauritanian government to support all segments of society.

Lesoud noted that the complex reflects President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani’s priorities, offering an integrated model to modernize traditional Islamic education. Toujounine’s Deputy Mayor Hadrami Ould Sidi Mohamed welcomed the initiative, highlighting the strength of Mauritania–Qatar relations and the value of this educational and religious landmark for the Toujounine community.

On the sidelines of the events, Qatar Charity’s delegation held a series of meetings with several Mauritanian ministers to strengthen development and social cooperation. Discussions covered economic empowerment initiatives, as well as projects related to Islamic affairs—most notably the Sheikhah Aisha Islamic Complex. The delegation also explored ways to enhance social welfare and family support. The visit concluded with a meeting that highlighted Qatar Charity’s role in deepening bilateral ties between the two countries.

Qatar Charity’s Mauritania office, established in 2007, implemented projects worth more than QAR 37 million in 2025 with the support of generous donors. These initiatives spanned education, health, water, housing, and economic empowerment, benefiting over 100,000 people. The office also signed three memoranda of understanding with relevant ministries, reflecting the depth of cooperation and partnership between both sides.
