With the support of generous donors, Qatar Charity (QC) has launched the “Kafi” Economic Empowerment Project in the Republic of Djibouti, as part of its efforts to advance sustainable development and promote dignified livelihoods. The initiative involved the distribution of 435 income‑generating projects, benefiting more than 2,500 individuals from needy communities.
The project was inaugurated in the presence of H.E. Mrs. Mouna Osman, Minister of Women and Family of the Republic of Djibouti, and Mr. Mohammed bin Ali Al Derham, Acting Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Djibouti, alongside senior government officials and representatives of local institutions and the community.
The “Kafi” initiative seeks to expand employment opportunities and improve income levels for youth, women, and persons with disabilities, by enabling their economic integration and participation in the labor market. The project aims to reduce unemployment, strengthen family stability, promote self‑reliance, and support beneficiaries in transitioning out of poverty.
The initiative comprised an integrated package of economic empowerment interventions, including the distribution of 200 fruit and vegetable stalls and 200 sewing machines, accompanied by comprehensive vocational training for beneficiaries. In addition, 10 farms were supported with essential agricultural equipment, fertilizers, seeds, and full fencing, contributing to increased productivity and enhanced food security.
The project also included the establishment of 10 clothing shops and five grocery stores, in addition to providing 10 families with essential equipment for honey production. Overall, the initiative benefited more than 2,500 individuals.
In her remarks during the inauguration ceremony, H.E. Mrs. Mouna Osman commended Qatar Charity’s economic empowerment projects, noting their tangible positive impact on beneficiary families and their role in supporting Djibouti’s broader economic development efforts.
Meanwhile, H.E. Dr. Hibo Moumin Assoweh, Minister of Youth and Culture, expressed her appreciation while participating in the distribution of several projects, praising the efforts of the State of Qatar, through Qatar Charity, in supporting young people. She emphasized that such initiatives facilitate youth access to the labor market, contribute to combating unemployment, and promote a culture of work and productivity.
For her part, Ms. Ghada Eezedin Ahmed, Country Director of Qatar Charity’s Djibouti Brach, highlighted that economic empowerment remains one of the organization’s core development sectors. She stressed that Qatar Charity focuses on enabling beneficiaries to build stable and sustainable sources of income. She expressed gratitude to generous donors for their continued support of vulnerable groups and their role in fostering self‑reliance.
It is worth noting that Qatar Charity implemented nearly 400 economic empowerment projects in Djibouti during 2024 and 2025, benefiting approximately 5,000 individuals, underscoring the organization’s firm commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and strengthening local economic development.
