With the support of philanthropists and in reinforcement of its humanitarian role in supporting the health sector and serving the most vulnerable groups, Qatar Charity carried out seven specialized medical camps in ophthalmology and eye surgery across several regions in the Republic of Djibouti. A total of 3,500 people benefited from medical examinations, treatment services, and cataract removal surgeries.
The camps were distributed across the cities of Djibouti, Ali Sabieh, Dikhil, and Tadjourah, with each camp providing screening and examination services to around 500 beneficiaries, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 3,500 people. The services also included the distribution of 1,050 medical eyeglasses to patients and the performance of 350 cataract removal surgeries, enabling individuals to regain their eyesight and improve their ability to carry out daily activities.
Improving Quality of Life
The camps targeted children, women, and the elderly, in addition to orphans sponsored by Qatar Charity and their families, reflecting the organization’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for the most vulnerable groups.
This project is considered one of the most significant health initiatives implemented by Qatar Charity in Djibouti, given its direct impact on restoring vision, improving the ability to work, study, and be self‑reliant, as well as reducing health and economic burdens on beneficiary families.
Government Recognition
The Secretary‑General of the Ministry of Health in Djibouti, Mohamed Ali Mohamed, praised Qatar Charity’s efforts, confirming that these camps contributed to improving the visual health of thousands of beneficiaries and alleviated their suffering. He described the initiative as a qualitative support to the ministry’s efforts in enhancing eye‑care services, valuing the effective partnership with Qatar Charity and its positive impact on the community.
For her part, the Director of Qatar Charity’s Office in Djibouti, Ms. Ghada Ezzeldin, affirmed that these camps fall within Qatar Charity’s vision to strengthen sustainable health services and reach areas suffering from a shortage of specialized medical services, particularly in ophthalmology and eye surgery.
Several beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the donors and Qatar Charity.
Maryam Omar Mohamed, one of the cataracts‑surgery recipients, said:
“I suffered from severe poor vision and could no longer recognize my children’s faces. After the surgery, I feel as if I have been born again. Thank you to everyone who supported and implemented this project.”
An elderly beneficiary, Mr. Mahmoud Moussa Aden, said:
“Before the surgery, I was unable to move or work. Today, I can see the road clearly and depend on myself again.”
