Qatar Charity Launches the “Classroom Reading Bag for Family Reading” to Promote a Culture of Reading Among Students

2/4/2026

Qatar Charity has launched the “Classroom Reading Bag for Family Reading” project as part of its commitment to supporting educational and cultural initiatives aimed at promoting reading habits, strengthening the relationship between school and family, and restoring the value of books in an era dominated by digital media.

Implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Education, the project represents an educational initiative with strong cultural and social dimensions. It seeks to encourage students to engage in reading both at school and at home, enhance their language skills, and foster family cohesion through shared reading experiences.

The project is based on the distribution of reading bags containing a carefully selected collection of diverse books, chosen by specialists in coordination with the Ministry of Education. Each bag is assigned to a student for one week to be read together with family members, before being returned to the classroom for circulation among other students.

During the first phase, 11,229 reading bags were distributed, containing approximately 2,800 different book titles, benefiting 3,743 primary schools out of 5,000 participating schools nationwide.

The number of beneficiary students exceeded 336,000, with the minimum estimated number of readings reaching approximately 2,000,000 during this phase.

As part of its efforts to maximize impact, Qatar Charity continues to support the project in a second phase, with 37,763 reading bags planned for distribution to ensure coverage of all primary schools nationwide. The number of beneficiary students is expected to exceed 1.2 million, while the total projected number of readings is estimated at 8,000,000, including students and their family members.

The distribution process covered all regional education delegations across the country, under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, ensuring comprehensive national coverage and equitable access for all targeted schools.

In this context, Ms. Karima Boussalmi, Office Director, affirmed that the “Classroom Reading Bag for Family Reading” project reflects Qatar Charity’s strong commitment to supporting education and promoting a culture of reading among children, noting that reading is a fundamental pillar in shaping students’ personalities and developing their cognitive and social awareness.

She added that the project aims to revive the role of the family in the educational process by creating a shared reading space within the home, strengthening family bonds and bringing children closer to books in their daily environment. She emphasized that the positive results achieved during the first phase provided strong motivation to expand the project further.
