Despite the exceptional circumstances, Qatar Charity (QC) continues to implement the projects of its Ramadan campaign “Good Starts With You” across the world. With the support of benevolent donors in the State of Qatar, and in cooperation with the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Colombo, Qatar Charity distributed 329 Ramadan food baskets to the most vulnerable families in Peer Sahib Street – Colombo 12, Sri Lanka.
This distribution comes as part of Qatar Charity’s humanitarian efforts to mitigate the impact of difficult economic conditions, support needy families in securing Iftar meals, and promote the values of social solidarity during the holy month of Ramadan.
The project is expected to benefit 1,645 individuals, with food baskets designed to cover the basic needs of beneficiary families for up to 20 days, contributing to enhanced food security and easing living burdens throughout the holy month.
Most of the beneficiary families rely on unstable sources of income, such as daily wage labor, rickshaw driving, and small-scale food vending, amid rising living costs and the absence of job security, making them particularly vulnerable to economic challenges.
The food baskets included 15 essential food items to meet Suhoor and Iftar needs, ensuring the provision of balanced and culturally appropriate meals for the beneficiary families.
This distribution complements Qatar Charity’s previous efforts in Sri Lanka, where 425 Ramadan food baskets were distributed in the Ampara district, reflecting the organization’s continued commitment to combating food insecurity and supporting low-income communities across several provinces of the country.
Qatar Charity calls on benefactors to continue supporting its Ramadan campaign projects, promoting the values of giving that help ward off hardship and bring hope to those in need during the Holy Month.
