Qatar Charity implements WASH Projects in Pakistan

Despite the challenges and exceptional circumstances facing the region, Qatar Charity (QC), with the support of donors in Qatar, has implemented a series of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, improving access to clean water and basic sanitation in some of the most underserved communities.

The projects included the installation of 235 hand pumps in Charsadda and Mardan districts, providing safe drinking water to more than 32,000 people and reducing reliance on unsafe water sources.

In addition, 61 solar‑powered water pumps were installed in schools and religious institutions, benefiting over 15,000 people and ensuring a reliable and environmentally friendly water supply, particularly for children.

To improve hygiene in schools, Qatar Charity also built toilets in government primary schools in Nowshera District, helping create healthier learning environments.

Charsadda and Mardan districts continue to suffer from a severe lack of formal water supply systems. Many families cannot afford deep‑well pumps and instead rely on unsafe shallow sources, increasing health risks. Qatar Charity’s projects help close this gap by providing durable and safe water solutions for the most vulnerable communities.

Local communities welcomed the projects, noting their positive impact on daily life, health, and education. Mr. Muhammad Farooq, a primary school headteacher, said the school had long suffered from poor sanitation, noting that the construction of toilets with hand‑washing stations will play a vital role in instilling good hygiene habits among children from an early age. He also expressed his gratitude to the donors in Qatar and to Qatar Charity.

Isfaq Ahmed (48), a beneficiary from Charsadda District, said his family had long struggled to access water, previously walking up to two kilometers to fetch it—an ordeal that affected his children’s school attendance and his wife’s health. He explained that the installation of a hand pump by Qatar Charity transformed their daily lives.

In 2025, Qatar Charity implemented 1,944 water, sanitation, and hygiene projects across Pakistan, benefiting more than 290,000 people.
