Qatar Charity Launches 12 Medical Initiatives to Support Vulnerable Communities

4/8/2026

Marking World Health Day under the theme “Together for health. Stand with science" Qatar Charity highlighted a package of 12 medical initiatives implemented between 2021 and 2025 to expand access to healthcare for the most vulnerable groups particularly children through treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation programs.

The initiatives come amid growing pressure on health systems worldwide, rising treatment costs, and persistent barriers to care in fragile communities underscoring the need to strengthen prevention and primary healthcare services.

Qatar Charity’s work spans specialized surgical campaigns, support for chronic-disease treatment, rehabilitation of health facilities, and targeted child-focused programs designed to reach those most affected by gaps in medical services.

The 12 initiatives target urgent medical needs across multiple countries, combining direct treatment with longer-term improvements in service delivery.

The portfolio includes “Compassionate Hearts” to treat congenital heart defects in children; “Ebsar” to combat preventable blindness; and “Making Smiles” to repair cleft lip. It also comprises “Whoever Saves a Life” to address severe malnutrition through integrated therapeutic and nutritional programs; “Planting Hope” to support kidney transplants for patients with renal failure; “I Hear You” to provide hearing aids; and “Big Hearts” to treat coronary artery stenosis. In addition, Qatar Charity supported treatment for non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure, the rehabilitation of dialysis centers, cancer patient treatment, prosthetic limb fitting, and building hospitals and medical centers to strengthen health infrastructure.

The “Ebsar” Initiative

Implemented in Ghana, Somalia, Yemen, Pakistan, Tanzania, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Jordan, Mali, and Syria, the initiative supported more than 21,500 cataract patients at a cost exceeding QAR 10 million. Qatar Charity said the program, delivered in coordination with health authorities, focuses on surgical interventions and prioritizes patients from low-income families.

Cancer Patient Treatment Initiative

Qatar Charity said the initiative aims to reduce patients’ suffering by providing essential medicines, facilitating access to treatment centers, and partnering with specialized health institutions. The support includes early diagnostics as well as chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgical treatment, alongside psychological and social support for patients and their families. The program also promotes community awareness on prevention and early detection.

The initiative was implemented in Yemen, Pakistan, Tunisia, Jordan, and Mauritania, benefiting 7,560 patients at a cost of nearly QAR 17 million.

Building Hospitals and Medical Centers Initiative

Qatar Charity said the initiative focuses on establishing and upgrading medical facilities in areas with weak health infrastructure, particularly in developing countries and crisis-affected settings. The goal is to expand access to basic healthcare by building hospitals and health centers and bringing services closer to communities.

According to Qatar Charity, the facilities are equipped with modern medical equipment and designed in line with international health standards.

The initiative was implemented in Pakistan, Yemen, Tanzania, Senegal, Somalia, Kyrgyzstan, Kosovo, Mali, Sudan, Tunisia, Ghana, Jordan, Togo, and Bangladesh.

More than 600 clinics and health centers have been built. These facilities serve 2,044,774 beneficiaries, at a cost of approximately QAR 38 million.

Qatar Charity said the initiatives reflect its focus on evidence-based interventions and practical support, translating health priorities into services delivered on the ground.
