With donor support, Qatar Charity constructs homes for Yemen’s IDPs
Qatar Charity (QC), in partnership with the Humanitarian Development Program, is implementing the “Al-Khair Aat City” project in Yemen’s Marib Governorate to provide safe, sustainable housing for internally displaced persons (IDPs). The project, funded by Qatari donors, aims to replace tents with durable homes and integrated services. About 40% of the work is complete, with full delivery expected by year-end.
The city will feature 250 climate-resilient housing units (caravans), each 48 m² with two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, and bathroom. Facilities include a school, mosque, health unit, vocational training center, sports field, and camp administration. Infrastructure will cover water and sewage networks, solar power, child-friendly spaces, and green areas with 700 trees to promote environmental sustainability.
Beyond shelter, the initiative focuses on education and skills training to help families regain self-reliance.
Dr. Khaled Nasser Al-Shujani, Assistant Director-General of the Executive Unit for IDPs in Marib, hailed the initiative as a “game-changing project,” noting that Marib hosts the largest number of displaced families in Yemen. He expressed gratitude to Qatari donors for their generosity and urged international charities and donors to support similar sustainable projects that go beyond temporary relief and lay the foundations for stability and dignity.
It is worth mention that Qatar Charity has implemented similar housing projects for displaced communities in northern Syria, Djibouti, and Somalia, reflecting its commitment to long-term humanitarian impact.
