Qatar Charity Pledges to Build the Capacity of 10 Syrian Humanitarian Organizations

Qatar Charity announced its commitment to building and assessing the capacity of partner humanitarian organizations in Syria, as part of its efforts to empower local partners and enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of humanitarian and charitable work. A press release from Qatar Charity stated that this intervention, which targets 10 partner organizations in its first phase, includes providing systematic institutional support, preceded by a capacity assessment and the implementation of development plans tailored to their needs. These plans include technical and administrative training programs aimed at raising the efficiency of institutional performance and improving the quality of response in fragile environments, while providing technical support to ensure sustainable improvement. This project will be implemented by the 'Maeen Initiative,' launched by Qatar Charity, as a qualitative project that translates the organization's vision of localizing humanitarian work and maximizing the role of local actors. The initiative aims to enhance professionalism, transparency, and accountability in the work of local organizations, enabling them to rely on their own capabilities and play an effective role in crisis recovery and sustainable development. The Maeen Initiative has developed Arabic-language mechanisms and tools to develop effective governance and program management tools and enhance the sustainability of charitable organizations, in accordance with local conditions and values, best practices, and international standards. The project is part of Qatar Charity's ongoing efforts to support local partners and enable them to implement more efficient and sustainable humanitarian responses, particularly in areas facing complex challenges and difficult operational conditions. The Syrian humanitarian organizations that will benefit from the project in its first phase have demonstrated a strong commitment to institutional development and engagement in developing improvement plans that respond to operational priorities and support the continuity of humanitarian services.

Qatar charity delivers homes to flood victims
Qatar Charity has successfully completed a housing project for those affected by the floods that struck Naseerabad in Pakistan's Blochistan province in 2022. Beneficiaries received their homes during a ceremony held to mark the occasion. The village consists of 125 housing units. Each unit is 90 square meters in area and includes two rooms, a bathroom, and a kitchen. Qatar Charity chose Naseerabad for the construction of the residential village, recognizing it as the area most affected by the floods that swept through Blochistan. The floods caused extensive damage to infrastructure and homes, displacing hundreds of families. This project comes as part of Qatar Charity's ongoing efforts to provide shelter to those in need in areas affected by disasters and crises. It is part of a series of model villages and cities that Qatar Charity aims to establish for victims of disasters and crises around the world, providing decent living conditions and alleviating their suffering through shelter and basic services. On the project's inauguration, Mr. Munir Ahmed Kakar, Deputy Commissioner of Naseerabad District, said: 'I remember the day the Qatar Charity delegation visited Naseerabad District to assess the devastation caused by the floods. During their visit, they pledged to support the affected communities by providing housing that would provide a decent life for those affected. Today, I am proud to witness the fulfillment of that promise.' He added: 'Qatar Charity was the first international organization to respond to the flood crisis and played a pivotal role throughout the recovery phase. These homes, which were a distant dream for our people, are now a reality thanks to Qatar Charity's commitment to its pledges.' Ms. Khadima Gul, a 58-year-old widow and mother of five, expressed her deep gratitude, saying: 'In 2022, I lost my home and livelihood when floods swept away my house and sewing machine, leaving me and my children without a steady income. We faced indescribable hardships, spending days and nights outdoors with limited access to basic necessities like food and water.' 'During that difficult time, Qatar Charity was a beacon of hope, providing us with essential support, including tents. Today, I am filled with joy to finally move into my new home, thanks to Qatar Charity and the good people of Qatar,' Gul added. Mr. Mujibur Rahman, a 41-year-old father of seven, expressed his deep gratitude to Qatar Charity, saying, 'The flash floods were a devastating experience for me and my family. They destroyed our home. It was an extremely difficult time. As a daily laborer, providing a safe and permanent home for my family seemed like a distant dream. Qatar Charity's intervention was a blessing from God. Today, I am overjoyed living in my new home. I extend my sincere thanks to Qatar Charity and the good people of Qatar.' It is worth noting that earlier in 2024, Qatar Charity built 12 houses in the Khairpur district of Sindh province, Pakistan, for families affected by the 2022 floods. Qatar Charity has also begun building another residential complex in Khairpur (the area where it was hit by floods in 2022) in early 2025. This one-year project includes 60 houses, each with two bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen, and a courtyard. The complex will include basic life facilities, such as a mosque, a water tank, a primary school, and a health center. It will be handed over to the government upon completion. The project is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2026.
