10/1/2026

With the support of generous donors, Qatar Charity celebrated the graduation of 162 of its sponsored students from Mogadishu University as part of the 2025-2026 academic-year cohort.

The graduates—82 men and 80 women completed degrees in a range of disciplines through Qatar Charity’s “Student Scholarship” programme, implemented in Somalia in partnership with Mogadishu University. The programme aims to expand access to education for people in greatest need and empower them to contribute to the development of their communities.

A Long-Standing Partnership

Abdulfattah Adam Moallim, Director of Qatar Charity’s Somalia office, said that education is a key pillar of the organization’s development programmes. He noted that the graduation of 162 sponsored students this year demonstrates the positive impact of Qatar Charity’s sponsorship initiatives, including its support for university students.

He added that Qatar Charity’s partnership with Mogadishu University spans 27 years and has enabled large numbers of students, whose financial circumstances would otherwise have prevented them from pursuing higher education, to continue their studies. He reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to educational initiatives that equip qualified graduates to serve their communities and advance development.

Dr Ibrahim Mohamed Mursal, President of Mogadishu University, praised Qatar Charity for supporting students throughout their studies. He said the assistance had enabled them to reach graduation and fulfil their academic aspirations.

Academic Excellence

Several Qatar Charity-sponsored students in this year’s cohort ranked among the university’s top graduates. Abdulaziz Mohamed Adam, an Economics student in the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, placed second university wide.

Marking the occasion, he expressed his gratitude to Qatar Charity and his sponsor for the support and care he received throughout his studies. He said that this assistance had provided the academic stability that helped him excel.

Abdulmalik Ahmed Wali Mohamed Ali, a Statistics student in the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, ranked sixth university wide. Speaking on the sidelines of the graduation ceremony, he expressed his appreciation for the support he had received throughout his educational journey.

Sustained Investment in Education

Since the programme was established, 3,842 Qatar Charity-sponsored students have graduated from Mogadishu University under the “Student Scholarship” programme. As part of Qatar Charity’s ongoing efforts to support education in Somalia, 364 sponsored orphans completed secondary school during the current academic year, while a further 789 completed intermediate school through the organisation’s social care and education programmes across the country.

Qatar Charity currently sponsors 25,107 people in Somalia, including 22,124 orphans and 907 university students. Its sponsorship programmes also support vulnerable families, people with disabilities and teachers.
