Qatar Charity (QC) has laid the foundation stone for a rehabilitation and training village for children with disabilities in Nouakchott, Mauritania, with support from donors in Qatar.

In cooperation with Mauritania’s Ministry of Social Action, Childhood and Family, the project aims to help children access education and care, develop their abilities and participate more fully in community life.

The ceremony was attended by the ministry’s secretary-general, Hamoudi Cheikhna Ali; Qatar’s Ambassador to Mauritania, Shaheen bin Ali Al Kaabi; the governor of Nouakchott North, Naji Ould Khatri; and the mayor of Dar Naim, Amm Ould El Qotb Ould Amm. Qatar Charity was represented by Ibrahim Abdulrahman Al-Janahi, Director of Development Operations, and Omer Abdelaziz Mohamed, Country Director of Qatar Charity’s Mauritania Branch.

Welcoming guests, the mayor thanked Qatar’s government and people for their generous support and continued assistance to Mauritania.

The director of Mauritania’s center for children with disabilities said the facility had long been an aspiration for those involved in the children’s education and care. Most of the center’s branches operate from rented premises, he explained, and this village would bring them together in one location.

Ibrahim Abdulrahman Al-Janahi said Qatar Charity viewed investment in people as the most valuable and sustainable form of investment. Its initiatives seek to improve lives while supporting national efforts towards inclusive and sustainable development.

He said the project was the result of a productive partnership between Qatar Charity and the ministry, reflecting their shared commitment to providing specialized services, protecting the rights of people with disabilities and supporting their inclusion in society.

Omer Abdelaziz Mohamed described the village as a beacon of hope for children and their families. It would bring rehabilitation, education, training and care together in a supportive environment. He expressed hope that it would become a model for community inclusion and make a lasting difference to children’s lives.

Ambassador Shaheen bin Ali Al Kaabi said the project reflected the close ties between Qatar and Mauritania. He thanked the ministry and praised Qatar Charity’s work to address local needs and improve quality of life.

Speaking on behalf of Minister Savia Mint N’Tahah, the ministry’s secretary-general Hamoudi Cheikhna Ali said the project demonstrated a commitment to children’s welfare, disability rights and equal opportunities. He added that it marked another step in cooperation with Qatar Charity to strengthen social protection and support vulnerable communities.
