Qatar Charity (QC) inaugurated a solar-powered integrated water system in Chiboli Village, Chamwino District, Dodoma Region, Tanzania, benefiting approximately 5,000 people, as part of its efforts to enhance access to safe and clean water for local communities.
The project includes a deep borehole, a 45,000-liter storage tank, and two water distribution points, contributing to improved health and hygiene, reducing the burden of water collection, and supporting socio-economic development in the area.
The inauguration was attended by Mr. Syed Shujaat Ali Shah, Acting Country Director of Qatar Charity, Tanzania Branch, District Commissioner Ms. Janeth Mayanja, the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) officials, local leaders, and community members.
Improved Access to Water
Ms. Janeth Mayanja expressed her appreciation to Qatar Charity for implementing the project, noting that it will serve four villages, a health dispensary, and a secondary school.
She noted that, before the project, residents had to travel approximately 3.5 kilometers to access water, emphasizing that the new facility will significantly improve the lives of local communities and enhance access to essential services.
For his part, Mr. Syed Shujaat Ali Shah thanked the local authorities and community for their cooperation and support in implementing the project. He reaffirmed Qatar Charity’s commitment to continuing its development interventions across Tanzania, particularly in vulnerable communities, through sustainable development projects aimed at improving the lives of those most in need.
Ongoing Efforts
The project builds on Qatar Charity’s ongoing efforts in Tanzania’s water sector. During the first half of 2026, its Tanzania Branch implemented several water projects, including more than 30 wells equipped with solar-powered systems, aimed at providing safe water sources, particularly in rural areas facing challenges in electricity supply.
Qatar Charity recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the First Vice President’s Office of Zanzibar to strengthen cooperation in implementing humanitarian and development initiatives for persons with disabilities, as part of its efforts to expand its development interventions in Tanzania.
