The orphan care initiative "Rofaqa" has contributed to the realization of the aspirations and dreams of numerous children, with support from benevolent sponsors. It has been a reason for success stories made by these sponsored orphans, as they excelled in their academic and professional journeys within their communities. Among these stories is that of Mizanur Rahman, an orphan, whose dream of excellence motivated him to overcome challenges and reach his goal.
Mizanur Rahman, who is from the `Achuavata’ village located in `Rajshahi’, a northern city of Bangladesh, became an orphan at the age of 4. Her mother, a homemaker, had no source of income to feed and raise her five children.
Since childhood, Mizan exhibited a strong interest in academics compared to his siblings. Seeing this interest in her child, the mother's mind was filled with joy. She got him enrolled in the Sheikh Hamad Orphan Center also known as the Godagari Orphanage, run by Qatar Charity since 1995, where 8-years-old Mizan was admitted in the third grade.
Brilliant student Mizan passed the SSC (Secondary Scholl Certificate) examination in 2008, and the HSC examination in 2010, both with the highest-grade point GPA-5, which opened the door for him to higher education.
To make his dream come true, Mizan moved to Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh to study at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), the country’s best engineering university.
Mizan said, “Qatar Charity had borne all the expenses of university admission and provided him with a scholarship, which helped him meet all other expenses easily.”
He earned an Honors Degree in ‘Materials and Metallurgical Engineering (MME)’ and got a job at Walton, one of the renowned electronics companies in the country. He works as a successful senior assistant director of that company, drawing a smile on the face of his mother through his achievements and becoming a source of pride for the villagers.
“We want to convey thanks to Qatar Charity to fulfill the dreams of my offspring,” the mother of Mizanur Rahman says. He says, “I am indebted to Qatar Charity and I want to repay this debt by dedicating myself to humanitarian activities.”
It is worth mentioning that the “Rofaqa” initiative has sponsored approximately 204,800 orphans to date. A new campaign has been launched to sponsor more 5,000 orphans. This campaign comes under the slogan "Expand Your Family" and aims to encourage Qatari families to sponsor one or more orphans, considering them as sons or daughters within their family in terms of care and attention.
