Qatar Charity (QC) won the Social Responsibility Award 2021 for the Humanitarian Work Sector in the 8th Social Responsibility Conference and Awards organized by Dar Al Sharq under the slogan “Community Responsibility Against COVID-19”. The award went to Qatar Charity in appreciation of its great role against the COVID-19 pandemic in and outside Qatar.

Mr. Abdul Aziz Jassim Hajji, Director of Marketing and Customer Service at Qatar Charity, received the award at the ceremony.

During the ceremony, Qatar Charity along with other winners received the award, which aims to raise awareness about social responsibility and its positive impact on building cooperative societies, and encourage companies and governmental and private institutions to pay attention to this aspect for the benefit of the nation.

Mr. Abdul Aziz Jassim Hajji, Director of Marketing and Customer Service at Qatar Charity, thanked Dar Al Sharq, expressing his happiness with the honor that Qatar Charity received for the humanitarian sector, which has played a major role in curbing the outbreak of the pandemic. “We give this award to everyone who donated, contributed and participated with us to fill the world with good,” said Hajji.

Hajji indicated that Qatar Charity has been keen to carry out its humanitarian duty since the beginning of the pandemic last year, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, in Qatar and worldwide. He also noted that Qatar Charity continues its humanitarian mission as the pandemic continues for the second year in a row, emphasizing that it will keep supporting local and international efforts against this epidemic.

He pointed out that Qatar Charity has focused on raising awareness among individuals and communities of the coronavirus, the need to take precautionary measures to limit the spread of the coronavirus, and delivering health and food aid to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the pandemic.

Qatar Charity’s efforts against the COVID-19 pandemic received several praises. It was chosen as one of Qatar’s top 10 most supportive brands that have participated in supporting the country during the current coronavirus pandemic, based on phone interviews conducted by Ipsos, one of the world’s largest market research organizations. The Jordanian Prime Minister Dr. Omar al-Razzaz has praised Qatar Charity for supporting the kingdom’s efforts in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the conference, three discussion sessions were held to discuss the role of companies and institutions against the coronavirus pandemic. Qatar Charity participated in a session, in which Mr. Mohammed Al-Ghamdi, CEO’s assistant for the Governance Sector at Qatar Charity spoke about Qatar Charity's efforts to confront the coronavirus pandemic.

He said that since the outbreak of COVID-19, Qatar Charity has taken an urgent step to contribute to the local and international efforts to curb the outbreak of the pandemic and alleviate the suffering of those affected by the pandemic, noting that these efforts come to support the efforts of the governments and the competent authorities against the pandemic.

Al-Ghamdi indicated that Qatar Charity has extended $27 million support to 60 countries worldwide, benefiting approximately one million people, in cooperation with its partners and UN agencies.

He pointed out that for the first time, poverty and hunger rates have increased in this magnitude in decades due to the pandemic, noting that there are 235 million people in need of humanitarian aid, an increase of 40% compared to last year with the decline in global funding for humanitarian aid, in addition to an increase in the number of people suffering from the need for acute food security by 82%.

The discussion sessions also included fighting the coronavirus from an academic and research point of view, and reviewed the vision of the Dar Al Sharq Social Responsibility Committee on a post-coronavirus community road map.
