QC partnerships with the UN and international organizations

Qatar Charity (QC) has made 93 cooperation agreements valued at more than $126M, with the UN entities, humanitarian organizations in addition to international and regional charities.

Such contributions highlight QC’s interest in cooperation, and show scale of its projects across the world through its partnerships with UN agencies and international organizations.

Orbis International

These contributions are focused on main entities, most importantly, 8 of UN agencies and organizations under 70 agreements worth a total of $28.2M. Furthermore, QC held agreements valued at $82.8M with Islamic Development Bank, and with Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) worth $7.38M. In addition to its cooperation with other international organizations such as International Medical Corps with a total of $2.74M for Healthcare in Syria, Central Africa, Sierra Leone and Somalia during 2014-2015 and its cooperation with Orbis International to fight blindness in Bangladesh in 2015, QC cooperated with United States Agency for International Development (USAID), providing more than $0.5M for water & sanitation projects and economic empowerment in Pakistan in 2010. Moreover, QC cooperated with Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in healthcare domain in 2013; Care international organization concerning livelihood in Sudan; Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), providing $4M in 2009 to better livelihood. In addition, a memorandums of understanding were signed with the following: Kanoute Foundation concerning healthcare in 2016, UAE Red Crescent regarding Iraq relief in 2009, Doctors Without Borders "MSF" concerning healthcare and finally Mosaic UK with an agreement concerning the social care domain.

QC cooperation with Islamic Development Bank benefited countries such as Syria, educating migrant and refugee children by providing them with educational curriculum. The efforts included Palestine, especially reconstructing Gaza Strip in the following domains: (Health, education, infrastructure and social housing for poor families.)

QC cooperated with ISESCO in 2014-2015 to help a number of African countries in areas including education, culture and economic empowerment.

8 UN agencies

Cooperation memorandums and agreements were signed with the following UN entities:  United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR.), World Food Program (WFP), International Organization For Migration (IOM), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

QC’s cooperation with UNHCR is valued at a total of $5.49M. Such cooperation lasted from 2000-2017 and included water and sanitation agreements in Kosovo and Pakistan, as well as relief efforts. These relief efforts extended to include: Yemen, Myanmar, Malaysia and Iraq, as well as Somali migrants.

Furthermore, agreements worth $4.83M were held between QC and WFB during 2007-2015. These agreements aimed at providing logistical support and food for Sudan, Palestine (Gaza Strip) and Pakistan, holding two agreements for the latter as well as supporting resource mobilization worldwide.

QC cooperation with IOM was concerned with relieving Lebanon in 2007 which costed $0.3M. In addition, an international cooperation agreement was signed in 2016.

FAO and OCHA

As for QC’s cooperation with FAO, it has been providing agriculture support in both Somalia and Pakistan; in addition to food security support in Niger during 2009-2017, with a sum of $7.8M.

Moreover, QC contributed more than $5.2M with UNICEF during the period during 2009-2016. Its contribution included social care in Somalia, water and sanitation in Pakistan, with more than one agreement in the latter.

QC has signed an international cooperation agreement with OCHA concerning experts’ exchange in 2009. Furthermore, QC contributed $2.53M with UNDP to provide Economic Empowerment in Palestine and Indonesia during 2009-2012, in addition to its support to Sudanese livelihood in 2017.

Two agreements worth $2M were signed between QC and UNRWA, in which they served healthcare domain in Gaza Strip in 2013.

It is worthy to mention that QC operates in 48 countries across the world, with 26 field and regional offices outside Qatar.
