Qatar Charity’s office in the Republic of The Gambia implemented a qualitative project to support the health sector, which represented the provision of medical equipment and supplies to the Aso District Hospital, which will benefit more than 8,000 of the poorest people in the northwestern region, with a donation from the people of Qatar. The project received praise from Gambian officials.

The First Lady of the Republic of The Gambia, Fatoumata Ba-Barrow, said that Qatar Charity is a role model for institutions that contribute to development in the Republic of The Gambia. During her address to the event of handing over medical equipment in the presence of several officials, she conveyed the greetings of His Excellency the President of the Republic of The Gambia, and the First Lady noted Qatar’s contribution.

 The support of the health and education sectors in the country and thanked the Qatari people for their continued support of humanitarian projects.

For her part, the Minister of Health of Gambia, Mr. Amadou Lamin Samteh, explained that the medical equipment provided by Qatar Charity will contribute to improving health services provided to the people of the city and neighboring villages and will help in treating many diseases, including chronic diseases such as cancer, heart, and diabetes, and will also help in performing surgical operations safely.

 The Minister of Health also praised Qatar Charity's efforts to provide medical equipment and said that the need for it is great.

Quality of healthcare

The hospital director Dr. Saneh thanked Qatar Charity for its support for the hospital and said that the new medical equipment will contribute significantly to improving the quality of health care provided to patients in the region and all neighboring villages.

 Lamin Sidikan, Governor of the NBR region, pointed out that the region lacks the most basic health equipment, stressed the importance and value of medical equipment and its impact on the region, and thanked Qatar Charity for the great contribution in light of the health conditions and health sector infrastructure that requires this type of important intervention. The "Fatumata Barro FABB" Foundation - a partner of Qatar Charity's office in Gambia in implementing the project - stressed the importance of the partnership with Qatar Charity, especially in the field of rapid response to the requirements of decent living through several implemented projects.
